Here is the deal... I was doing some work on my car and when I was taking of one of the front wheels I noticed the entire hub was loose. I could move the tob and bottom of the wheel in towards the car. The problem is I don't really know what the part is called or what to look for. It's basically the piece that locks the hub into place. It's the piece that the axle sits on.

If anyone knows what the piece is called or if they could get me a part number for it, I would really appreciate it.

 

I don't have one at the moment but should be able to get one.

 

if you are talking about your rotor then who cares if you can move it since it is held in place by the tire when you screw the lugs on. but if it is the entire knuckle that you can move then that is a problem.

Yes it's the entire knuckle and yes it is a problem. And I need the part to fix it.

No, I inspected the wheel bearing and it's fine.

I got a couple pictures of it.

I wasn't sure on your car this diagram is from a 98 y8.

 

See ntrider, I looked at the same diagram and I'm thinking it's the part in number 1 between the two rings... But I'm not sure.

Anyone know for sure?

FYI: Part number 1 is a brake caliper boot rebuild kit.

I'm not going to buy a new hub, my hub is fine. The part I took out needs to be replaced.

is that is or is it not one of the races from the wheel bearing? usually when you ride on a bad wheel bearing for too long without noticing, you can f up the suface of the hub that the bearing gets pressed onto.. which is why i personally always change wheel bearings and hubs all at once.. but your also the one that said your wheel bearing is fine so if your that sure of yourself why are you on here for answers at all?

 

bad wheel bearing will not mess up your hub unless you do some real damage.

NOTE: THE RACE IS OUT OF THE BEARING. THIS IS BAD!!!!! THE BEARINGS ARE SEALED AND ARE NOT SUSSPOED TO DO THAT.

You need a wheel bearing.

I guess it is the race from one of the wheel bearings. However I didn't know that, that's what I was asking.

So all I need to do is buy a new wheel bearing and get it pressed back in and I should be fine? (for the time being, I don't have $130 for a new hub right now)
