A good motor should be pushing 190-240 give/take

...and all be within ~10 psi of each other.

do it with the throttle wide open and crank it over 3 or 4 times. Anything over 170 is good as long as they all read within 10 of each other.

When I had my engine installed, a tech did a compression test right in front of me, he said 280, 280, 280, 280. I said "you mean 180?" He said no, 280. Anyone seen those kind of numbers b4?

It depends on the gage used.

It depends on the altitude.

It depends on the battery/starter used.

etc...

I've seen it before...on my own JDM h22a. just did a comp test a few weeks ago and all 4 ranged from 275-280. funny thing is, I actually broke the 1st compression tester we used. we were cranking the motor when we heard this little pop and the compression tester needle just froze. got out another compression tester and finised up around 275-280. almost pegged out the tester. my buddies' h22a with high comp pistons pegged the needle at 300.

and to answer the question, like the post made before, all depends on altitude, what compression tester used, whether or not you hold it at WOT with plugs in or plugs out, etc..

good rule of thumb is if they're all within 10% of each other like the other post said before.

with the other 3 plugs in, not in the one being tested. I've seen about a 5psi loss in each cyl with them in. this is just for the lazy people who don't want to take out their plugs.

You still have to remove the plugs, you just do them one at a time

I have done it both ways. Depending on what else I am doing to the car at the time.
