I'm trying to stay semi-Smog legal by running an OBD2 ecu that I won't have to worry about swapping out when smog time comes. I'm going to be making everything appear to be a greddy turbo kit so I can pass visual.
I had a couple questions for anyone who knows anything about chipping OBD2 ecus:
1) I've heard the chips aren't re-writable and don't hold the programming well, is there still an issue with this?
2) Are there any shops that do it?
3) What is the total cost, for those of you who have done it.

No, you can do it from what I've heard there are complications to it....still it would be about the same cost as if i was to run OBD1 and a whole lot less BS if i could just drive the thing straight into a smog without swapping the ecu.
I'm running 2a.
There's a company out there that chips them ( I lost the link ) but I thought I'd ask to see if anyone has actually done it and what their experience were.

The company is Tech-Tom.
OBD2 doesn't have any provisions for an outboard ROM to read from, so the only reall way would be to replace the microprocessor. These are very rare and expensive ($500 each). They are also one time programmable too, so better not screw it up.

That's something like what I was thinking of ... (Something.. :-P)
Point being, get a P28 to act like the ECU u need for ur engine...and that's completely managable/reprogrammable...or it doesn't evne have to be the P28, that's just the most common, but an ODB-I, pretty sure the P06 is frequently used as well - Anyways, there's been more than one instance where I've seen ODB-I ECU's SUCH AS but NOT LIMITED to the P28 and P06 which can be chipped and re-programmed w/ a different basemap and w/ different sensors to act like a certain ECU, and you can still change everything from there..

That website isn't working. I'd think with all the tech-geeks out there someone would have made an add-on to use a ROM.
I'm still kinda peeved that AEM's EMS doesn't have an OBD2 port to read from.....oh what a miracle product that would be then....

Yeah, not only would it be an annoyance but I'd have to run my completely boosted motor on a non boosted fuel map for smog....
There was a site out there that had obd2 chips for $300. That's about the cost of going OBD1 with crome and even less than going ODB1 with Hondata.
