Default Intalling a new Edelbrock TB & IM and could use some tips

I was fortunate enough to finally buy the Edelbrock 65mm tb and Victor X manifold as I start to build up my all-motor GS-R. I also picked up the Hondata gasket. I have some mechanic skills but nothing of the caliber found from many members of this board. I have installed other bolt-ons like Intake, FPR, Header, Exhaust, but nothing challenging like this. I did a little research but I could use tips and suggestions on how to make this as easy as possible with no mishaps. I am the original owner of this 38K mile baby and I don't want to *** up this install. So far here is what I believe I must do to maximize success:
*Get ziplocks and a sharpie and label everything I remove
*Label all vacuum & fuel lines before disconnecting
*Clean engine intake side and manifold well before removing it
*Buy gaskets (I believe I need a tb gasket from Edelbrock...can anyone confirm?)
*Drain coolant
*Disconnect battery
*Remove hood?
*Lift car to remove bracket bolts from underneath car holding IM

I appreciate feedback from anyone with advice but particularly from someone that has performed this upgrade before and can identify potential pitfalls....thanks!

Alright, I installed a skunk2 intake manifold also, What I DID NOT DO was drain the coolant, so it all spilled all over the floor. Also for your tb gasket, you can get one form anywhere not just edelbrock, Also you need a new gasket for the intake manifold, be sure to know where all your hoses and stuff go, also it may be a good idea to clean your iacv also. If you need mroe help you can PM me. O ya also be sure to open the gas pressure thing, i forgot what is is called, but it is a black can with a 10 mm bolt on top

sounds like u r good and organized i think u will do just fine. one thing u are gunna have to deal with as well is your throttle cable. on mine i used an ITR cable with a home made bracket bracket. u can prolly put your gsr cable and bracket on the TB but it will hit the hood and a strut bar will prolly hit it.

heres a pic of my bracket using an ITR throttle cable kinda hard to see but gives u an idea.

I have a tb gasket that comes with the Edelbrock and bought a Hondata for the IM so I should be set as far as gaskets. The possible problem with the throttle cable clearing the hood and strut bar and needing a custom bracket is concerning. Any more info you have would be helpful. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Thanks for all the help guys....greatly appreciated!

I have a vise and drill but no bandsaw. I do have a Dremel but that bracket looks pretty thick so not sure I can cut it. I can definitely see from your picture that the hood won't fit - it looks like the tb sits much higher under the hood with the Victor X IM. So let me see if I understand what you did to customize the bracket. Did you simply bend it enough to angle it more horizontal? Did you retain the mounting holes or create new ones? Did you cut away from the bottom, top, or center? How much vertical clearnance did you get by cutting the bracket...an inch or so? This doesn't look like fun at all but I'm willing to try it...maybe I'll order an extra stock bracket now to start messing with. Thanks again Matt!

you might want to get the ITR throttle cable and cable bracket cause the gsr one wont clear. GL with the install

After closely looking at some pictures of the Victor -X, and because two people have suggested it, I bought a ITR cable and bracket. It clearly looks like the ITR cable is a must-have item to fit on the new IM (based on pics). Worst case scenario either a modified stock bracket or the ITR will fit...hopefully.

Yes, a Victor X on a semi-stock motor (I have intake, exhaust, exhaust man, FPR). I'll get to the internals eventually. I already bought the Edelbrock IM and TB - I wanted the matched components and they have a great rep.

Matt, really looking forward to those pics dude - very nice of you.

After doing more research it appears there are two options:
1. use a ITR cable & bracket (IM mount) WITH a non-GSR throttle pulley & spring OR
2. retain the GSR cable & bracket and modify the bracket and keep it mounted on TB.

The IM mount (a la ITR) will not work with the stock GSR TB (or the Edelbrock TB designed for the GSR) which has a pulley designed for a cable pulling from the passenger side whereas the IM mount set up pulls from the driver side. It may work to have the cable pull from the driver side on the GSR TB but the cable doesn't wrap around the pulley completely and I don't think it will be secure. Although I already have the ITR cable and bracket, I am definitely leaning towards customizing the GSR bracket. Even if I wanted to use the IM mount with ITR hardware, I don't want to swap a pulley and spring from a new Edelbrock TB for a stock non-GSR pulley. Does Edelbrock sell a non-GSR pulley and spring? I think I can chop a good 1-1.5 inches off the bottom of the GSR bracket (where the mounting holes are) and then drill holes for mounting. Hopefully that should reduce the height enough to clear the hood. Does that make sense? Matt, do you recall how much hood clearance you needed?

I also found out that the upper studs holding the IM are NOT long enough to handle to Hondata gasket (its pretty thick). So it sounds like I need new longer studs and now I'm sweating out how tough pulling them out is going to be...ugh

You are really going to hate life. That manifold is WAY too big for your mods.
