Building a b16a1 for boost...
Im planning on getting my hands on a 99-01 Si and was looking to build and boost the b16.....since i dont know how far im going to push it i wanted to for sure build the engine right away before pushing it too far and possibly blowing it, getting my hands on new sleeves, pistons, rods, valves, valve springs, cams, cam gears, crank, throttle body fuel injectors and possibly port /polish.....a **** load of money but possibly worth it. Did i cover most of everything importnt or am i missing some obvious areas? Also.....i have no clue how to go about the ECU..? How does the boost affect the VTEC....im lost on the electronics aspect of this project and want the engine to be able to handle anywhere from 7 to 20 pounds....any feedback or recomendations???
You might want to check in the Forced induction forum.. You can build the baddest motor in the world but it isnt going to do **** unless you have it tuned right. IMO the ECU is the most crucial part of any build
For 1 there is no such motor as a b16a1. The 99-00 SI has a B16a2. Anyway your list of stuff is kinda whack.. i guess if you want to spend a grip of money on stuff you dont need then go for ****.. A simple build of a b16a with just some pistons and rods and you can make 400whp with no problems if you have a decent turbo kit and tuner.
A stock b16 can handle the 7-20lbs your looking for... but to be on the safe side i would do the bottom end build
ecu you will need a chipped obd1 p28,p30,p72 etc.....

stock b16 running 20psi?
youre joking right?
i mean, sure it can be done, but not for long.

yes it will eventually blow.. but people have made 600 on stock b16's at 35+ lbs of boost..
i never said it would last forever.. just saying it can be done
all depends on turbo to.. 20lbs on a 50 trim is like 12 on a t67

First off....im almost 100% sure that b16a1 is the USDM b16 making 160hp and the b16a2 is the JDM making 170hp....but could be wrong.....and the reason i want my engine bulletproof and am willing to spend the money on the parts i might not necessarilly need is i need a daily driver that can make that 400hp+ with no possibility of detonation, i know the b16 can hadle boost...but it's internals were not built for it or the temperatures it produces...so eventuallly they will wear till something goes, ofcourse i will have a propper tune done....the best parts in the world can be destroyed without a propper tune, so let me get this straight....i just need to chip my ECU and no further worries?? Plus, with 400hp+....should i concider swapping on a different tranny or just beefing up the b16 one?
like i said there is no such motor as a b16a1
JDM motors dont have numbers after the last letter
94-5 del sol vtec had a b16a3 160hp obd1
96-97 del sol and 99-00 SI had a b16a2 obd2 160hp
