Audio Help
Hey guys this is my first post. Whats up ?
Alright i picked me up a 87 rex last week and got it to run. Now i want to upgrade the audio. I have an aftermarket radio but the colored wires from the radio to the dash are different. Im not sure what to do besides try evey combination. (mind you there are like 8 wires on each!)

Find out what the colors mean from the radio ,,and from the cars,,and then match them..Or find out if there is an adapter you can use that connects to the car,,then to the radio..What brand/model radio is it?
Its a Sony radio. I posted this question in audio too and a guy gave me a link to InstallDR. All the wires to my radio matched up but i still had extra's from the car. I have a solid black, a red with black stripe, and another i believe.
my first crx had a hacked radio harness too. best thing to do is just get a test light or a voltage tester and look for the battery power (always has power) and the switched power( power with key on), then just gound it on somethinglike the metal frame of the radio housing on the car. the power are wires most likely be different from the others, and the speaker wires will have pairs of similar colors. such as grey and grey w/ white stripe, blue and blue w/ white stripe, etc. you just need to get the power hooked up then test the the speakers one pair at a time, shouldn't take to long, just remember to use good connectors like the blade style. then make sure every exposed wire is covered with some sort of insulator like a rubber sleeve or electrical tape to keep from shorting out. then i like to zip tie everything to keep it organized. good luck.
Black wire is ground, red/black stripe is illumination.

red with black stripe goes to POSITIVE DIMMER CONTROL on the aftermarket radio.
Sony's dont have this.
If the radio did have it, it would be ORANGE SOLID, or sometimes ORANGE with WHITE STRIPE.
thast pretty much it. if the radio doesnt have any orange wires it doesnt support dimming. which is optional, you dont need it to make the radio work, at all.
all it does, is when you turn your lights on, make the radio face not as bright.
