is it ok to mix 2 different oil brands with the same weight? i forgot exactly what motor oil was put but it was 10-40. my oil level is kinda low so i need to put some in. can i just go and get a 10-40 or it has to be the same exact brand and type?
I do it all the time, as long as its the same weight it will mix up fine. Just different brands have different additives to protect your engine. So its best to stick to one, if you want to change brand, do an oil change

Yes.
I've mixed oils that are neither the same brand, weight, or even base.

Shouldn't be a problem, my brother used to run a oil change shop and he says its ok to do that, especially if it means messing up your motor by having no oil in the thing. So yeah, looks like you did it already so ok
