Default boosting then a loud bang

i have a H23a1 with a turbonetics t3/t4 turbo i just up the boost and jump some numbers up on the SAFC when i boost and hit around 5k rpms i have a loud bang and some black smoke came out ran the car up the road seems to run fine then tried it again and same thing....car runs fine now but why was it doing it i went from 3lbs(all the auto tranny could handle before i swapped a 5 speed in) and i boosted up to 7 lbs and then got the bang. tried retarting the timing a few degrees still didnt help any ideas on the issue

and does anyone have the ideal settings for the SAFC for 7lbs. other mods include msd sci, blaster 2 coil, and plug wires. vortec fmu and regapped my plugs to .030 any ideas

This sounds like a nightmare.

So aftering hearing a loud bang from your motor after messing with the boost levels/fuel adj., you decided to try it again?

Has your SAFC been properly tuned? If you're just tuning by ear, sight, or feel, I think you are very fortunate to have the motor still running fine.

Do you have a wideband O2 to monitor what your A/F ratios are?

The SAFC is already a poor choice of engine management. Your best bet is to ditch the SAFC and go with something more useful (Chrome, Uber, HONDATA, Neptune, or AEM) then send it to a tuner to get it tuned, the right way.

Was the "bang" more like a ping? If your engine was pinging, then you're running into pre-detonation (very bad).

It's your engine telling you to stop raping it.

The ideal setting for the afc and fmu would be in the garbage. It sounds to me like the car is running pig rich. You are just asking to blow your engine... so I would highly recommend taking it to a shop and having it tuned with a decent EMS.

but seriously. You need to get your car tuned.

what injectors are you running?

an afc and fmu is no way to treat a turbo motor.

if you just have to run the safc get some 450s ditch the FMU ... but the best would be hondata or if you want to be cheap like me run crome it works amazing.
