Need advice: component 2 ways without crossovers, good or bad?
Right now I have a component set installed in my 93 VTEC Lude
that came with crossovers for the 2 ways and the tweeters.
sony cdx-gt500 (HU)
kenwood kfc-p605ie (front) not amped
At the moment only the tweeters are hooked up through the crossovers to the HU, not the 2 ways. is there any benifit to also wire up the 2 ways through the crossovers that they came with? or just leave it as is. the only reason why they are not wired through the crossovers b/c it seems like it will be a pain in the *** to do so. (having to chop into the connectors in the dash, or tearing up the weather/stripping going from the door to the cabin.
Everything sounds fine, i guess i shouldnt try to fix it if it isnt broken but I dont want to do any damage and have to replace another set of speakers down the line.
Thanks guys.

If it doesnt sound bad then it should be ok. But if its a component set then the speakers are suppose to be wired to the crossovers. I wouldnt really worry about unless it sounds distorted.
2 ways on components? It sounds like someone replaced the midrange speakers with some 2 ways and left the tweeters intact. Your midrange speaker should look like a factory speaker... there shouldn't be a tweeter in the center of it, just a round cone. How the hell is this wired up and working? Are you sure the tweeters are even playing?
This is how you install components: Connect the INPUT on the crossover to the two wires that were going to the factory speaker. Then run two wires from the WOOFER output on the crossover to your mid range speaker, and two wires from the TWEETER output to your tweeter. The only difficult part is mounting the crossover, and in many cases, that's not difficult at all. Just put it on the door in a ziplock bag.
Using the crossover will give you much better sound and it will prolong the life of the speakers.

it is set up that way. the only issue is, the door speakers (woofer, 2 way whatever u want to call it, 6x5's) are not hooked up to the crossovers b/c its a pain to get the wire to run to them. they are hooked up straight up into the HU. the tweeters are hooked up to the xovers.
from factory, the door speakers are hooked up straight from the HU. the factory tweeters are piggy backed off the line going to the door speakers. I have it set up now, is:the input on the crossovers are conencted to the wires that originally led to the tweeters, then the tweeters are wired through the crossovers. the door speakers i didnt touch in terms of wiring. i just need to know if i should bother running the wire that is not connected from the crossovers to the door speakers. if i do it will be kind of a pain cuz i dont feel like ripping up the weather guard on my door.

How you have it set up now is no more difficult than doing it the right way. First of all, pull the OEM tweeter wires out of the crossover. Then extend the wires that are currently going to your woofer and connect them to the input on the crossover. Finally, run new speaker wire from the woofer output on the crossover back to the woofer.
Get a backstrap, some speed clips, and some screws, and mount the crossover over a gap in the door. On top of the weather guard is preferable. Make sure that the window and it's mechanisms have clearance to roll up and down. Then put the door panel on making sure it also clears the crossover.

the only thing keeping me from wiring it up the correct way is getting the crossover wire to the door from the cabin. it seems the only way to do that would be to take off the door and properly feed it through the weather grommet, or cutting into it with the door on. either way would be a pain.
the only way i can think of bypassing having to do that would be to cut the wire leading from the head unit to the woofer, putting the crossover in place, using the existing wire going to the door for the woofer to connect to the woofer ouput on the crossover, and then running the output wire on the crossover to the tweeter.
i think this would be the easiest way. what you suggested suspenededHatch, would work, but its not easy for me to get into my door from the cabin.
what is a backstrap and speed clips? does it matter where the crossover is mounted? lets say behind the HU.
