Default OEM or MOROSO oil pan which should i use

Ok im stuck between tapping my stock oil pan for my turbo lines or buying a moroso???? which should i use. The OEM looks pretty thick so tapping might be pretty decent BUT its cast....Now i could put a nut on the inside and locktight it in.... what do you guys think....

If you have money to spend, go for the Moroso since that'll be most plug n play. Just make sure the pretapped oil return bung is in the location you want. No point in buying a pretapped pan if you can't use the tap location.

Many turbo h22's have used the trad. method of either bolting it in like you said or welding on a fitting/bung. I think bolting it on would work just fine as long as you use crush washers or o-rings. Welding works great too.

I would not just simply tap the pan and screw in a fitting, that would most likely have leaks.

I have an earl straight cut o-ring -10AN fitting bolted from the inside, using earl's bulkhead nuts. Used a crush washer on both ends. Works very well.

Hope that helps.

Why do you say that? My oil temp sending unit (1/8" NPT) is threaded directly into the pan with no leaks. It's been that way for a little over a year with no problems. We've done a few other track cars this way with no problems at all. Just pick a meaty section of the pan and tap using an aluminum tapping lubricant. Make sure you use teflon sealing paste when installing the fitting.

BTW, this is on a 5Gen cast aluminum pan, not the 4Gen stamped pan.

If you're concerned about leaks or not having enough material to tap into, you can buy weld on NPT and AN fittings and just weld it onto the pan.

Yea, I was referring to the stamped pans. They don't have much thickness to them to ensure a good tight seal when tapped.

If the 5th gen cast al pan's are like the F20C pans, then I'm sure tapping them with good sealant/teflon tape would probably hold up fine. We did an F20C turbo oil return line the same way you described. There's a lot more thickness to those pans then the 4th gen stamped pans.

I should've be more clear, thank you for pointing that out.

I think that a stock pan is fine, but I got the moroso just because of the pre tapped oil pan for the turbo. If you have the money get the moroso. If not stock will be fine.

this is just an idea, but how feasible would it be to use the stock drain plug area, and run a banjo bolt or something similar to a brake line fitting?

just throwing it out there, good idea? bad idea? enough flow?

i dont think that'll work because the drain on a turbo oil pan such as moroso is up out of the oil it may have reverse affects dunno i think it would be bad
