Default Cracked Sleeve, now what?

I went to the track on Tuesday and ended up cracking a sleeve. I don't know how this happened because I was only running 10psi on a conservative tune. Anyways I'm not sure what I should do. I figured I would just buy another gsr bare block and eventually get the old one sleeved but my friend has an ls motor and I thought maybe about using the block and doing an ls-vtec. What do you guys think?

yeah I was thinking about doing the whole ls-vtec thing for now just wasn't sure. I'm sure I could afford it sooner than I could afford anything else. I just wish I knew what caused the sleeve to crack.

If you still want togo the turbo route I suggest resleeving the block. Sure you could get another block that "looks" good but you cant see any hairline cracks starting to develop, etc. I have seen in the last three weeks one car crack a sleeve (18lbs 380whp) due to an ICM failure and another (14lbs no dyno) melt the pistons due to an ICM failure. Both had been running less than a month

Yeah still going with turbo. I would prefer sleeving my block but I guess I was looking for a cheaper solution for right now. If I sleeve the block then I also need to invest in some pistons, rods, etc. which of course I always considered buying just not all at once. Well I don't know much about sleeving so is there a preferred company out there? What is usually the cost? any links would also be helpful.

I have a friend who has some arias pistons that he used in his car for about 5 years. He ended up cracking 2 sleeves himself and is not using the pistons anymore. He said that I can have the pistons. Visually they look ok but I don't know if there was any damage done to them. Anyway to check?

ok. Well I just applied for a personal loan. Sleeved block time it is. What brand does everyone prefer? Benson, Golden Eagle, AEBS? I'm also going to go with some pistons and rods. CP pistons with Eagle rods. What is a good compression to get and what else am I going to need to complete this build? Bearings, gaskets, etc? Thanks guys!

Benson or ERL are my two picks-- in reality, any of the top names (GE, AEBS, etc.) are all good.

good luck with the loan.

9:1-10:1 would be good choice for pistons.

how much power are you wanting to make? if its under 500whp i would just build with stock sleeves. thats just me tho. as far as sleeved blocks i would def go with either Benson or ERL. GE is nice also.

cp pistons...SUPERTECH PISTONS...all good choices...lol

I would stay with stock sleeves if I just didn't crack one. Goal for now is going to be under 500whp. Still waiting to hear back on the loan
