Default Thermostat question...its closed...then opens...did search

I'm on my last legs of patience here guys...

anyway, i'm just wondering if its possible for a thermostat to be closed then open when the time is right...then close back up while the coolant is hot?

i'm getting funky symptoms.

eerrr your question is a little confusing.

but in normal operation with a STOCK thermostat,
as "Last 4 1" said,

close=cold,warm
open=warmer. hot

When it is hot, it stays open so the radiator can do it's job.

When temperatures drop below a certain point, the thermostat closes so the engine can get back to normal operating temps.

its cool, i'm just upset that i might have to waste 25 bucks on 2 gallons of coolant again. and on top of that i might have a bum "new" tstat also...just wasted money.

Drain your coolant into a container and reuse, no harm done.
