Default Headlifting Under Boost? Just Popped a Rad Hose In 1/2!!

This is a d16a6 with vitara pistons and eagle rods, built head with a t3 .60/.63. ARP studs and y8 metal headgasket

I was just out tuning the car, went out for a brief drive to get some base numbers to work (no boost) and everything was cool

Then I richen'd it up under boost (like 11:1) and went for a boost run, held 10 psi fine (going to run 15)

Did 2 rips with some light driving around town and then I did a 2-3 pull and pretty much right when I shifted into 3rd and gave the gas ******* steam goes EVERYWHERE

Pull over to find the upper rad hose just split on me, right in the middle, 1" long like someone stabed it with a blade. I quickly grabbed some electrical tape and wraped it up tight as expletive about 10X around, buttoned down the hood and drove home, car ran semi hot with the gauge 4/5ths of the way up but I would just get up to speed (80km/h) and kill the motor and coast. Did this for the 2km trip home

Now my question. This rad hose might notta been new but it wasnt fucked, it was still stiff

I have arp's that are torqued down 3-5ft/lb's passed the recommendation

Is my head lifting or did something else happen? Im scared to even drive this ******* thing now, let alone at 15psi

Hmmm time for a stronger headgasket. Ditch the oem one if it isnt up too par with your ride. Cometic or something

Welcome to stock d-series sleeves. Why is your base timing set to? Total timing at 15psi?

haha, one bored says just replace the hose it was just a bad one

honda-tech takes it to the extreme with headgasket problems, head resurfacing etc

I swapped the hose out with a new one and its fine, no problems

i too noticed that my radiator was swelling and would eventually burst, but luckily i caught it!

i just bought new samco radiator hoses, which can hold more pressure in case this ever happens again...
i would get your head checked, since timing seems alright..

If the temp gauge was up 4/5th of the way, that's not just semi-hot...that's overheating the **** out of the motor. My guage is mounted into the upper radiator hose and when the gauge gets to about 240-250* then the needle in the cluster is just at the 1/2 way mark. Sooo if you're at 4/5th then your temps were way hotter than 250

Take the head off bring it or have it checked for straightness along with the block.

Slap some arps, and a OEM honda y8 Gasket and torque the head studs like this 10ft,20,30,40,50,60-65

If you actually read the thread, I used arps and a y8 headgasket in this motor

And it was just a fucked hose

If the ignition is too low, the combustion will be moved further to the exhaust stroke.
causing overheating to the cylinderhead/exhaust.
And altso creates higher watertemp.

Might want to consider rising the ignition a bit, and monitor the knock, with a knocksensor.
