Default HELP ME PLEASE!!! (My first F**k up of the build)

Well, I almost made it completely through my first build without messing anything up, but I just put the head back on and forgot to put in the two dowels that insert halfway into the head and halfway into the block. My question is, will my motor be ok without those dowels or do i need to put them in? My main concern is the fact that I already torqued my brand new ARP studs and I also used a Felpro gasket that has the sticky surface. Thanks in advance guys!

I did the same thing with mine. It didn't seal for **** without those dowl pins. Altough even after I put them in, i still seemed to have a headgasket leak.

spend the 50 bucks for a new head gasket and put the pins back in. Better to do it now then when you have coolant all over the place after the gasket goes.

platinum.

thanks guys. even before yall responded i knew what i SHOULD do. i was just really pissed that i had to do it. I pulled the head back off and i'm going to get a new gasket tomorrow. I just hate the fact that such a small thing cost me this much time and money. Better to spend it now than in the future though.

Yep, better to do it now than later.

And don't be too down and out about it. I forgot them once after I had changed probably 20 B series HG's. Sometimes, things just happen. I found mine on the towel when I was completely done and putting my tools away lol.

did you have the block decked or head shaved a bit? If you did, there would've been a chance that your dowels would've been too long with the material taken off of your motor

My friend did this too. Well he claimed last time that they weren't in there either. Anyways, we were trying to start the thing, couldn't figure out what the clunk noise was, finally fired it up, and it sounded like a machine gun. Anyways, the pistons were hitting the head gasket in the end. Wasn't my money, i didn't care

I did it on my first lsvtec with stock block, bolts, head and never had any problems. I would use them though
