question about arp head studs
this is a stupid question, and ill be the first to admit it...but i was messing around with the block thats sittin in the basement, and i put my arp head studs in it, and when i screwed them in they just seemed like they went in extremely far...
so my question is, approximately how far are the head studs supposed to come up from the block when they're tightened down...thanks, dont need like an actual exact measure, but an approximate would be nice, thanks!!

I would have to measure the head and add 3/4"-1", but unfortunately, the head is on the block right now. Sorry I can't be of more help.

make sure to clean out the threads in the block, use ARP lube and put them in hand tite. Mine seemed like they went down pretty far also. I have about 3-4 theads showing after the head was tourqed down.
Yes, I'm in the process of taking off my head right now.
Mine also sticks up about 3/4" with the nut still holding the head on. (Damn 12pt deep sockets. I still have to buy one to get it out. All my deep sockets are 6pt.

hmm, that picture actually helps alot...i think i got the wrong head studs, those in the picture look like they are a good 4-4.5 inches out of the block...and mine are only 4 inches in total length...so when i got my block i obviously got two sets of main bolts instead of head studs and mains...
thanks tho shamoo

No problem. Yeah...they are all about 4.5 - 5 inches out of the block.
Make sure you buy yourself a 3/8th drive, 12 point, 1/2" deep socket for the nut. All my deep sockets are 6 point and I'm sure most people's are.
$3.99 from Sears for a Craftsman.
Even though the 13mm will work and a 1/2" 6point deep socket will fit somewhat snugly, don't use them. They will strip the nut.
