Default boosting suggestion (GSR)

i have a JDM GSR (10.6 comp ratio) with ITR tranny.. would it be a good idea to think about turbo now?

i ask because 1..... so many people says short gears like ITR and b16's dont run well with boost 2... because compression is a little too high

10.6:1 is nothing. Boost it no problem. The short gears are best. Ever read the article by Evans tuning about the b16 tranny vs the ls tranny. Your itr will keep you in vtec and the opitmal powerband for your turbo.

The compression is no problem as long as the tuner knows what he is doing. Its nice having power out of boost before it spools! I recently boosted my JDM B18c and I love it. Its reliable and have had no problems since it has all been together. Im ready to turn it up some .

thanks for reply yall... so shorter gear ratios is actually better than long gears to boost???? i read some articles on this board and people said short gears are too short for the boost.. so they are wrong>?

shorter gears keep the car in vtec when u shift (as already stated)...so yes the setup you have is GREAT for boost. Wish i could give you some #'s on my JDM B18C but i dont go to the dyno till saturday

Yeah thats the draw back is highway driving. My bro with a turbo gsr used to get such bad gas mileage on the highway at like 75-80 because it was in boost and vtec sometimes.

I can understand vtec but why would he be in boost if he is just cruising on the highway??? Im always in vacuum when Im cruising 80-85 on my turbo gsr with b16 tranny

for the turbo alone or for a whole kit? you gotta pick a realistic whp goal. i think a garrett t3/to4e is well enough for a beginner though.

shorter gears doesn't mean your in vtec all the time when boosting. gears are the same no matter what depends on closeness. your just able to reach vtec faster. having an ls tranny would allow you to hold power of a longer span of time as opposed to the b16.
