Default Anyone rockin' the s300 yet?

Been looking at this badboy for a while now. Read a couple threads on it including the comparison to the Mugen ECU. Other than that there wasn't much info. The new features sound awesome. Changes on the fly via USB, no little blue box, etc.

My main question is: Is it worth it to upgrade from the s200 to the s300 if I'm NOT the one doing the tuning?

Sounds like the main features just make it easier to tune but if I'm not tuning my own car, should I care?

Opinions and suggestions welcome

I've got it in my caR and I dig it. I mean, I do lots of data logging when I'm out driving and then I review the data when I get home.

I like being able to email datalog and A/F map files to my tuner for review then drop in the ones he sends me back after he's made some tweaks to it.

No one asked you Neo

The s300 does not compare to that stuff in any way.

I use the s300 in all 3 of my cars. Much easier to use and tune with, and no more opening the ecu to make changes and having all kinds of wires all over the place.

Well, this is a pretty obvious thread for Matt to reply to.

Matt: Trust me, none of us know anything about cars. We should all just ask Neo.

If fact, you guys should hire him...

(yes, that was sarcasm)

My tuner tunes Hondata so Crome is out of the question. Good, bad or indifferent; I'll stick with Hondata because that's what my tuner knows and he's good at what he does. I could switch to AEM EMS seeing as that he tunes with those systems as well but that's too pricey.

I should mention that my ITR has STOCK internals, just all the bolt-ons. So no crazy fuel maps and lumpy cams to idle.

short answer, go with what your tuner is most comfortable with, that will support your car's needs. it all comes down to features.

when I was using AEM EMS, it was very easy to get lost in all the features it has, most of which are not used. but they have great product support and development, and applications for 100's of vehicles, which all adds to the price unfortunately.

just about any of the smaller, lesser known tuning programs will support most peoples needs. its just a matter of finding a tuner to use them properly.

stay with the s200 since you are still on stock internals.

no.. if to do it from scratch.. sure, why not.. at least i'm not gonna do it - not without some type of discount for upgrading - would be nice of hondata people to do something about that.. what problems are you having with s200?

I think letting him speak his mind is probably a nicer idea.

Crome is also my choice. But as always, pick what your preferred tuner does best.

I run the S300 and find it's features + ease of tuning to be very useful. Anybody who tunes cars regularly will appreciate the Hondata unit. Crome is o.k. for what it is, but really does not compare favorably against the S300.

It was a joking reference to previous experiences.

I installed the Hondata S300 a couple weeks ago along with the PLX R-500 Wide-Band data logger.

I have been thoroughly impressed with the capabilities of the Hondata system. I started with a great base map from King Motorsports (thanks Clayton) and got my street adjustments done without surprises. The software interface and ease of adjustments with the S300 is fantastic.

The R-500 with its dyno capabilities has also been a nice piece to work with. While the absolute numbers may not mean much the repeatability has been great. When I started setting the car up I was consistently getting numbers like 185WHP; now with my street tuning done I am getting numbers in the 196WHP +/-2HP range. My car was dyno'd 3 years ago and game me 178WHP without any tuning. So I figure the numbers I'm getting from the R-500 are likely 5-10HP above the actual dyno numbers. I plan on heading to a dyno soon to do the final tune. The other nice thing about the R-500 is I can do a pull any time I like and see what it gives me.
