Default rev limit at 6700. help

ok heres the scenario, just installed a skunk2 intake, of course lost some of my emissions stuff due to the swap (IAB, fuel vapor recirculation thing that connects to the charcoal canister).. oh, its a 97 GSR (obd2) btw... it was recommended to up the vtec to 5700ish rpm.. with a vtec controller... so i opted for a buddy club controller that i already had previously before i found out how vtec truely works (fuel and vtec together)... so I reinstalled it, upped my vtec point to 5500 (sits at 4400ish without the controller)... and I get a fuel cut off, or rev limit at 6700 or so rpm.. I lowered my vtec and raised it to different points... still the same thing... would this be as simple as resetting the ECU, or what might be going here?

also, today when i started my car up to leave work, i had grey/blue smoke from the exhaust, but when the car warmed up to normal temp, it went away.

and... my primary o2 has no signal output.. so i know that needs replacing soon

Do you ever hear the VTEC engage? Is the car hitting a fuel cutoff or is it simply losing power?

Any CELs? Does you CEL work at startup?

vtec is engaging... its definately not losing power... the car seems to "buck" right at 6700.. sounds just like a car hitting its rev limiter.. best way i can describe it would be to say if full throttle is an eeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrr... it would be eeeeerreerreerreerreerr... the rpms will not go above 6700 most of the time.. during initial startup in the morning, before the car warms up (i only did this once to check) it will cruise clean to 7200 or more... then it warms up... and that starts to happen........ so as of right now i can say it seems to only happen when the car is warm

Don't bring your car to 7200 when it's cold.

i dont normally... just that once to see if i could narrow the problem to all the time, or only when warm... and right now, only when warm... computer is a stock usdm gsr ecu, not sure of the year... but definately for a gsr.

When is the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Cars can also drop out of VTEC if the oil pressure to the cylinder head drops too low. Have you checked your oil level?

The primary O2 sensor could be the problem as well. When the car is cold, the ECU uses default fuel and ignition maps. When it is warm, it relies on the O2 sensor.

i havent changed the fuel filter.. ive had the car for a year.. the previous owner had it boosted at 18psi i was told, blew the head, sold the car, car got fixed, and sold to me, who didnt know of this at the time.... i tried to changed the fuel filter, the top bolt comes off easily, the bottom bolt is stuck.. ive tried everything, and when the filter housing started to get a dent in it from me turning the wrench, i stopped.. and put it all back together. i have a new filter in the shed still for it.

oil level yes, im aware of that, when the car is about a quart low, it does that.. so i do keep tabs on my oil level regularly.

in regards to oil pressure in cylinders... pump going bad maybe? im not aware of how to test for pressure on my integra, but i have an oil pressure gauge that sits about 15 or so on idle, 25psi at 45, and when vtec is engaged its reading around 70-75psi

my idle sits at 400 rpm usually, but sometimes drops to 200. Cleaned my IACV out, and the car didnt act like it wanted to shut off at a stoplight after 5 miles of straight driving.

ok in regards to your ecu theory.... the owner before me (again) obviously had hondata or some other piggyback unit hooked up, seems like half the wires going to the ecu are soldered and taped about 3 inches from the ecu connector... vtec solenoid wire, rpm signal wire, and quite a few other ones...

on the ecu theory...
try using another ecu and see if it still has the same problem.

ok...i had some nasty lookin spliced together injector wires, redid every injector wire, cleaned my vtec solenoid, unplugged all connectors under the distributor, and they had oil in them from a leak previously i guess.. so i sprayed them all off with denatured alchohol, reconnected them (the primary o2 was pretty full of oil inside the connector).. now all i have left is to trace down the primary o2 wire going to the ECU, and see if that wire was spliced, and if so, redo it.. who knows maybe all my problems were wiring related. ill let ya know. if this doesnt work, ill do the ECU thing.

ok all seems to be well.... but my car is running very very rich. i can smell it standing behind the car at idle, and when i accelerate, if i let off it, and gently start to accelerate again, the car hesitates real bad, like starts to go, then slows down, then starts to go again slowly as i give it more gas... but it runs great in the mid-high rpm range, just sucks on the low..

problem fixed.... now i just have to trace down a vacuum leak in the morning.
