Default Idea for 3" floating exhaust flange - Good or bad?

I just rec'd a custom downpipe for my turbo kit. It has a 3 bolt 3" flange welded on the end. I also have a thermal 3" catback exhaust with the same type of flange already welded on.

Just ordered a 3" universal magnaflow cat (no flanges)

I want this to be fully bolt up with as little fabrication work as possible

I saw this product in the summit catalog

http://store.summitracing.com/...w=sku

My idea is to measure the length i need, then have these welded on each end of the cat, leaving the triangle flange 'floating' so it can bolt up easily. I would use the gaskets also.

Will this work? Will this last? Will it leak? Is this a good idea or a bad one i had while smoking and thumbing thru the summit catalog?

thanks...

Just use a gasket. These are the type of flanges that I have used on every domestic car I have owned.

no reason you can't have flanges welded on each end of the cat to mate up to the downpipe and exhaust.
the idea you have should work i guess, the only concern would be leakage.
also, make sure there's a flexpipe somewhere in there between the downpipe and cat.

Ive used those before, and they actually hold up nicely. Seals perfect, but make sure you put that gasket in between.

I cant weld. so to weld the flanges on the cat and getting it exact requires me driving my car to a shop, getting it on a lift etc. All cost money and i have no one reputable to do it.

Theres a flex sectioi welded into the downpipe.

so the consensus is that i can do this? Just make sure i use gaskets?

Wells,

Have you notice both ends of the Magnaflow Cat is a little flared?

Meaning, you can slip in 3inch pipings into it. Will save you time and money. -=P If you cant weld, then use exhaust clamps in the mean time.
