Exhaust flange thickness?

Exhaust flange thickness?
I need a 3 bolt exhaust flange (cat to bpipe) ASAP, and was just going to fab one up rather than try and hunt one locally or wait to have it sent.
How thick does this flange have to be? I dont want it to warp/leak obviously, and I was going to use 1/4" steel. Will that suffice, or will I need to go 3/8" or even 1/2"?
