oil pressure gauge install ques
Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't the factory oil pressure sender vary current based on oil pressure? And doesn't the sending unit supplied with an electrical oil press. gauge do the same thing? If so, I'd rather just omit the wire going to the dashboard light and use that voltage as my sender signal to the gauge. I'd preferentially do it this way as I already have an oil feed teeing off for my turbo and wanted to avoid having three outputs. Has anyone done this before?
Thanks,
Andrew

unfortunately i dont think that will work. i dont think the stock sender and the aftermarket are calibrated the same way. and i dunno about the stock one varying voltage based on pressure. it only turns on the light when there is like 0 oil pressure. that why we call it a dummy light.
your best bet is probably to use a tee on the firewall for all your oil lines or at least remote mount the aftermarket sender.

I appreciate the response; if I understand correctly, this means that I can remove the factory pressure sender and replace it with the aftermarket sending unit since there is really no need to have the dashboard light, and monitor variant pressure soley through the gauge...
Regarding the remote mount, I think I may have to do that because I have sprung one too many oil leaks in the past. Btw, I'm running a SS line from the tee to the turbo, but is nylon really suitable from the block to the firewall, is there anything stronger other than stainless?
Thanks again

yeah you could completely replace the stock sensor with the aftermarket. thats what i did and ive heard a few others say they did the same.
you should def use stainless lines and remote mount the huge aftermarket sender.
