Where do i look around for vaccum leaks???

use your ears, listen for a hissing noise.

 

when its idling? i have exhaust and **** so i cant really hear much when im driving

 

let the car idle, open the hood and just listen for hissing noises...you cant really tell if the car has a vacuum leak when you're driving anyways cause you need to be under the hood listening. check the intake manifold, there are tons of vacuum lines coming out of it.

 

go buy 2 cans of carb cleaner and spray everywhere 2 pieces connect where there is vacume... when ur idle drops, or ur engine turns off you've found ur leak

An unlit propane torch works a lot better and cleaner. Just do it outside. And I think your idle will go up when you hit the leak.

 

could a vaccum leak be causing:

erratic hard idle
car running extremely rich?

vacuum leak usually makes the engine rev up and down.... can also make it run rich. Depending on how big the vacuum leak is, it can rev pretty high, then get close to dying out. My personal favorite method to check for vacuum leaks is to spray ether aka starting fluid on all the vacuum lines and connections. If it revs up, you've found your problem.

 

thats my exact problem. My car runs super rich and it surges at idle... canyone someone take a picture of there b series engine bay and circle the lines i need to check..?

 

There are several symptons when you have a vacuum leak. The car will either surge or rev real high at idle if you have a leak. I would get some carb cleaner and spray around the vacuum hose and intake manifold gasket. If you have a vaccuum leak, the tune of the engine will died when it suck in the carb cleaner. If you spray and there's no change in engine tune or the way it idle then you don't have a leak at that area.

 

get a vaccum gauge and connect it to your intake manifold. That should tell you.
