idle at 1 - 1.2k, possible vaccum leak?
hey guys
recently my cars been idling at 1 - 1.2k... could this cause the car to burn more gas?
ive ran a search on the whole adjusting the idle with the screw, but i want to know why the idle changed itself?
also, after i installed an intake a few months back... ive always heard a hissing sound from the engine bay. i blew it off and thought that was the sound an intake makes when it idles... but the more i think of it now, the more i think it may be a leak somewhere?
the hissing noise however goes away after the car warms up, so im not completely sure if its a leak, or just the intake?
thanks

probly vaccum. A good way to find where it coming from is if you take a stethescope, take off the thing at the bottom so its just the hose and listen around. Used this once, make things a lot easier.

Have you hooked a vacuum gauge up to it yet? If you want to check the vacuum hoses you can try spraying carb cleaner or brake cleaner over the hoses. If the engine RPM goes up after you spray an area, then that is wear your leak is.
By the way, does the idle surge?

its not gunna be a vacuum leak unless the revs are going up and down. I say just adjust your throttle cable and call it a day

no the idle is constant... but its pretty high compared to my friends hondas.
i guess this "hiss" is the intake afterall? its not like a blowing out hiss... but a "sucking" in hiss. sorry for the lack of terminology, but theres no nother way to describe it.
when i tap the gas and it revs up, the hiss goes away.
soccerking, what would adjusting my throttle cable do?

anyone have a diagram on all the vaccum lines and the best way to check for a vaccum leak because my car seems to go from 800rpm idle to 300rpm idle and it almost dies. once i put the ebrake on the idle goes up to 800rpm. i dunno whats going on and i just got my honda like end of january and done no much about where the vacuum hoses are. anyone got a topic telling us newbies how to do it or a diagram of the vaccum hoses on a 97hondacivic ex coupe 5speed

there are 2 bolts that you can adjust on the throttle cable about 6 inches before it attachs to the t/b rotor. You can loosen/tighten them to raise or lower your idle

thats not how you adjust your idle ,your throttle cable should have about a 1/2 inch of play ,you should only adjust your idle with the adjustment screw, try this pull the idle screw all the way out and take some throttle bady cleaner and spray up the hole that the screw goes into if you can ,use a pipe cleaner to get into the little hole inside, make sure you clean the tip of the screw real good then reinstall, screw it in all the way till it stops but dont use to much pressure ,then turn it out a half a turn, you should idle fine but may need a little adjusment from there

get some carb cleaner and with the motor running, spray it around your IM until the motor bogs. Then you've found your leak.
