Default Is a Catch Can necessary.................

Is a catch can really necessary for my turbo ls/vtec? I'm still a little confused on what exactly the catch can is used for? I've seen a lot of set-ups with catch cans and a lot without. Again my power goal is 350-400hp.

Are you talking about a catch can, or a breather can.

A catch can is for liquids, ie radiator overflow.

The breather can is the one with a filter on top that allows crank case or valve cover to release the pressure that builds up in either part. It takes vapors and condenses them back, usually gas vapors that would end up in your oil. So i didn't, or don't on any cars, plumb the return line back into the system.
