1st to 2nd gear
Hey,
Im about to drive to las vegas but im alittle worried because if I drive agressive and I shift from 1st to 2nd there is a crunch sound. But when im driving normaly its fine. It catchs 2nd everytime. Could it be my clucth master cylinder?
I have a 99 civic ex with just a short shifter.
Thanks in advance!

yea that would be your syncros. it used to happen to me but then i replaced trannys and it went away. plus that short shifter is doing much good.

-"hey doc, it hurts every time i do this"
-"well, don't do that"
Don't mash it like a 15yr old kid playing an arcade game. Use finess.
Edit: Also try to needlessly downshift into second or if you know how, double clutch cause it will take some wear off your syncro. I had to do this with an old VW.

when i owned a civic that year mine did the same thing and it was fine for the couple years i had it...i think it has something to do with the syncros but as long as it goes into gear and you dont rag on it itll be fine

I had the same problem on my old civic, If I shifted into 3rd gear going over 5k it would grind no matter what. I could never drive it hard without looking like a noob when it would grind.
It doesn't matter how you shift it into gear if you use finess or whatever, it will still grind. Don't talk if you don't know what your talking about.

Thats exactly what happens. In high rpm shifts it grinds. It drive me nuts while scaring me at the same time.
Thanks guys. Im not trying to put anyone down because you guys helped me. But how am i going to drive "normally" at the drag strip? To las vegas I can drive normally but im talking about the long run. Im going to replace my clutch, master cyl., flywheel, brushing and tranny fluid.
Thanks again!

wow ,,a 99 tranny grinding already? When you change the tranny fluid put in some pennzoil syncromesh..It covered up the 3rd gear grind in my 16 year old B16 tranny..

I used to have the same problem you're describing. It went away when I replaced my clutch. I'm not saying you need a new clutch, but it might be worth looking into. Check your trans fluid and clutch master cylinder fluid first though.
