DRAG Turbo manifolds.....is boost creep a common occurrence with them???
Like the post says, I'm a budget so I really can't afford to buy a brand new turbo manifold right now. i have been searching around and I know that DRAG and RevHard manifolds are usually on here for sale used. I'm considering buying one so I put my turbo kit together. Now before I go buying one, I wanna know what most people think about using a used DRAG manifold to build my kit considering that many poeple complain about boost creep. Is this a common thing with these manifolds? I have seen a lot of people use them, so I'm assuming that they are not that problematic.
I plan to fall between the 250-350 hp range and I will be doing up my internals too.
What would yall recommend?
Is it a good idea to use the DRAG manifold as a base to start things off?
Everything will be goig into 97 Integra GSR...thanx guys!

Lower boost not an issue... it really only seems to appear with higher boost... and that "line" changes with each application. My friend even tried to tie in runner 4 with his pipe from the WG location and it still crept. This was like at like 15psi on a t3 48/60 (i think).
His solution was making a new manifold for himself.

yeah like splitime said at "higher" boost levels it may become an issue. could be 10psi could be 20, it varies for each application. i would say out of the log mani's inlinepro would be your best bet. good wg placement and cast stainless that is pretty much indestructable. the blox may be another option, even though ive heard there have been a few minor clearance issues with the wastegate and the head (dunno which motor exactly). personally, i have the revhard and it has worked nicely for my setup, except needing an elbow for the wastegate. im lookin to switch to inlinepro as a directly replacement because i have recently developed a crack between runners 3&4. cast iron is storng but more "brittle" i guess.

Hold up here....this thread NEEDS my input lol.
Okay, I'm running a Tial 35mm wastegate w/ 7psi spring. Boost held fine when I was running my STOCK exhaust (cat, collector, muffler). Once I upgraded to a Thermal and changed my downpipe from 2.5" to 3" it now creeps up to 10+psi. I've even thrown a MAP code from going over 11.5psi. This is on a Garret T3 turbo.
Do a little more searching, I've heard of people porting the 4th runner prior to the wastegate flange and not having anymore boost creep issues. I can post a pic if you can't find what i'm talking about. I mean I don't know how much of a budget you are on, but you CAN find something with a better design for not much more $$. good luck

20psi D16Y motor 374 wheel power no boost creap for me!
i also had my mani ported and flowed some and the WG is a 38mm so we ported out the gate hole to a 38mm hole. i do knwo there were some minor issues with 35mm gates but if you use a 38mm you have to port it out to proeprly get the correct relief eeffects desired.
maybe that's one of your issues your seeing?

i had no issues with a 38mm tial and 17 psi, but was retaning the 2.5" dp. most problems seem to arise when people go to a 3" dp.

same issue here, drag 2.5" downpipe, with the reducer cutoff the end, kteeler 3" exhuast, tial 38mm gate with .6bar spring, stock map. Thing would usually stay around 10psi according to the guage but it would definitely creep sometimes and iw oul dhit a hard boost cut (thanks hondata!)
scared the **** outta me the first few times, if u have ever experienced boost cut without knowing that it was the boost cut feature u would think something was seriously wrong.
Only happened like 4 times in the 8 months or so the kit was running.
edit: havent modified the manifold at all for teh 38 or anything tho, seems like i may have to try that this summer

yup, and yeah teh tuner sets the cut limit. Mine was most likely cutting cause of stock map and boost over 10psi induces the cut. but my tuner also set teh cut to 11psi so who knows

Im in the same boat too, ive had the drag manifold for about 4 years now and drag downpipe has had to be rewelded 3 times now because of no flexpipe and i just hate the thing. I am going to get a new DP made by next month custom 2.5 inch because i have AC, and go to a 3 inch thermal exhuast as well. Will this be a problem if i keep my Drag manifold? And would a Blox make more power than a drag/ spool faster?

The blox wont be much better than the drag man, i wouldnt even consider that an upgrade honestly. Get the the spoolinperformance or fullrace or inlinepro manifold, all better than both blox and drag.
You shouldnt be cracking the drag dp so much, are your motor /torque mounts worn? That will cause the engine to "buck" more and stress the downpipe alot.
But yeah i am definitely switchin that manifold as soon as money provides... need an engine first

as a matter of fact i have polyurethane motor mount inserts installed from when i got the lsd and clutch done about 2 years ago. I think it just cracks because it has no flexpipe on it.
