How many miles on the motor? Is this your daily driver? Please give us a little more details.

do a mild LSvtec build you will make much more power, and it can still be very dependable for daily driving

Do you plan on keeping it N/A or going forced induction?

Whats your point? Email Don F and ask him if it is pointless.

I agree. How much down time does he have. If he can be without his car for a couple of days to a week, then he could do it.

Nothing wrong with being different! Besides, my momma told me I was special!

Anyway, dont let others discourage you if you have made a decision on which way you want to go. Just b/c they want to be like everyone else, doesnt mean you have to. I like feelin like teh underdog everywhere I go. It makes it easier for me to take someones money at the track.

because vtec isnt needed to go allmotor....plenty of people have had sucess with NA ls builds, earlier on vtec engine werent around as much as they are now.

i should have around a week to do it, i have never gone into a motor before so this should be intresting. i am not sure if i want to bother the bottom end i might but i think i rather keep it in the head. if i put pistons in it would i have to mess with the rods or anything ?

right now i am trying to stay out of the bottom end if i do anything it will just be pistons. right now i am thinking crower 403 cams, spring, retainers, gears, intake manifold, headgasket to bump up the compression and i am not sure what else i should do. what are helpful power gainers ? and if i do get new pistons what should i buy ?

well then id say shave the head a few tousanths so you can compensate for the larger cams, get dual valve springs and use the stock retainers. other than that you can get a fresh valve job because im pretty sure you dont want to shell out the extra cash for a P&P

EF man, you're in Dahlonega? You've probably seen me up there. See my avatar for my car...I'm frequently in your area, I live about 40 minutes south of you in Woodstock.

I'm reading up on this thread, too. I purchased a B18B1 yesterday with less40K on it. I still have a ways to go (mounts, linkage, ecu, trans, axles, ex hubs, wire conversions, exhaust) but I'll have PLENTY of time to build as my D15B2 gets me by for now. So keep bumping ideas. Originally I was planning to go turbo with it, but it appears WAY easier to get my hands on NA parts...

Just curious, I've heard about someone putting a GSR head directly onto an LS, and I've heard of putting a B16A1 head onto LS bottom w/ ITR pistons...just two other ideas I've heard thrown around, so please list pro's and con's of any build you mention.

I'm open for going VTEC/NonVtec, Turbo/NA, and I've been inside several engines, so I'm not scared to open the top or bottom, and I'm not scared to mix/match or hit machine shops, so keep throwin' ideas out, please!

Thanks to anyone who helps. I'm not intending to jack the thread, just letting everyone know he's not the only one with eyes in the thread

Mind me adding, but MY goal is around 150-175whp...with as much torque as I can get without busting bank. I'm not looking to build a SICK ride, just bump the power to run with my buddies C6 (NOT Z06) Vette...I THINK I can touch him with 150-175...anyone tested this theory? I plan to have my car loaded in the end (in other words...not stripped nekked)

Bump for more help/ideas...

From what I understand the LSVTEC option is decently reliable...I haven't heard much bad about it once it's actually BUILT...

Yeah, I'm up there for mtn runs probably once every other month through the year. I'm on IA as well, but usually run with the Vortex through the mtns. They're holding one on the 12th that I'll be attending if you wanna join, but I do warn you, from what I hear, the Vortex runs alot harder than IA.
