Stripped lugnut
Like a moron I bought lugnuts at Autozone. Today while trying to put new tires on my car one of the bolts stripped. I tried everything I could think of to get it of. I tried using my impact wrench and nothing happened. I'm certain I don't know how to use that thing properly. I also tried using that old trick of hammering in a notch on the bolt with a screwdriver and then trying to get leverage and turn the bolt that way. I ended up just tearing the bolt to hell and back.
I do not have access to any welding equipment, so I am unable to weld a bar to it and do it that way.
I do have air tools but I've never used them. I'm not opposed to using them to do this though with proper instruction.
Can anyone help me? How have you removed a stripped lugnut before?
Should I epoxy (JB Weld, etc.) a tire iron to the lugnut and try that?

They sell special sockets for problems like that. I know for a fact that snap on has them but I am unsure who else makes them. You hammer the socket on and it will screw right off. Good Luck. Let me know if you need more info.
Either...
A. Beat a socket onto it and just turn it off. Should be very easy provided that the outside is just stripped and its not actually cross threaded.
B. Since you have air tools, if you have an air hammer/chisel, just chisel it, it will start to turn easily.
I have locks and stripped lug nuts removed at work all the time. Option A is what I end up doing 80% of the time, B about 15%. the other 5% you just get down and dirty and straight tear the bitch up getting it off, usually end up replacing the stud too.
Snap on does in deed sell a tool just for removing stripped bolts., we just don't use it because of otion A & B working just fine usually

I tried doing this with two sockets. I first did it one size smaller and it stripped again. Did it with another size smaller and (you guessed it) it stripped again.
I'll try the air tools tomorrow. I'll try either the air chisel or the impact wrench.
At the very least I'll probably be able to tear it off. The metal was pretty flimsy, so I'm guessing I can get it off with a little work.

I just spent an hour trying to get it to budge with an air chisel. I just made it worse.
I think I'm just going to drive it to a tire place and have them get it off. Stud be damned.
Or I guess I could just get some drill bits and try to drill the bolt off. yeah, I like that option better. More fun.

I took it to Big-O and they told me it would cost $75 to drill the stud out. I can either spend a bunch on drill bits or just pay these guys to do it for me.
I'm going to do it tomorrow b/c I don't have the time or patience for this type of thing right now. They also said they can replace the stud for $5, so that's not bad either.
Anyway, this crap sucks. All of the money I saved by buying the rims with the wheels is now gone.
