Virginia Emissions Inspection... how can I pass?? HELP!

whats up guys... I'm trying to buy this car, but I'm scared that I wont be able to get tags for it... As some of you may or may not know, VA changed all the emissions inspections around as of August 2005... All 98+(obd2) cars must pass emissions through a laptop... the days of the little exhaust probe are gone...
Heres my problem... This car I want is an 01 lsvtec turbo... The ECU is the stock obd2, but it is wired with an obd1 harness to allow the use of Hondata S200b... My dads been in the biz for a while, and he says this will NOT pass emissions, therefore I will not be able to get plates...Several other people have also told me that it will not pass emissions unless I know someone who will pass it for me... anyone have any advice for me?? anyone who can pass it?? I know I cant be the first to have this problem... help!!

So then it's not the stock OBD2 ecu... You're right though, you can't plug up to it and do the inspection, because it's not an OBD2 ecu. There is always the option of putting an OBD2 ecu in the car temporarily, but you'd still need to drive it around for a bit to set the readiness codes. Other than that, you're going to have to cheat.

to be honest, im not exactly sure what ecu the car has...
This was the seller's response when I asked him if the car would pass inspection, and which ECU it has...
(1:48 AM 10/26/2005) Mr.DC2TurBo: The car is obd2 but I have the obd1 harness wired to it. It will not pass emission unless you know someone, it's turbo/pnp/ls vtec so i doubt it.
from what I've been told, this is impossible... is it possible to have an obd2 ecu wired with an obd1 harness??

The deal is the car is OBD2, of course. But to run the OBD1 ecu, you use an adapter harness that converts the OBD2 plugs to the OBD1 plugs into the ecu. To run hondata S200b, you need OBD1.

if the car is turbocharged then most likely it has bigger injectors. to pass, remove the "OBD1" ecu and put in the stock OBD2 ecu and install stock injectors. drive around with it for a few miles but drive easy, dont hit boost or else u might blow up on the stock injectors. also u must make sure u have NO CEL. as long as u have no CEL with the OBD2 ecu then u should pass.

Yeah, trying to set readiness codes on a stock system with all that is throwing too much unknown stuff into the mix. If you had a wideband, it would be a little better, because at least then you would know why it blew up.
But just driving around going "I hope it works" is too great a risk.

You have to learn or pay someone to show you how to trick the system. And most likely you have An obdII to obdI harness so that you can use a OBD1 ECU, that way you can use your Stock engine harness.
You have very few options. But what I would do is like someone mentioned but a little different is get an obdII ECU for the car and depending on your injector size I would get some 310cc and hook the greddy blue box also you will need to lower the boost of course and put a catalytic converter.

i dont knowy u peeps r so worried. if u put on the stock injectors and put in the stock OBD2 ecu (which will take all of 15 min's!!) and u drive the car under 3-4K rpms just to get it inspected, then theres nothing to worry about. u wont be hitting boost so the car will be safe. Just see if u can get ur hands on a wideband O2 to check to see if the car is running too lean under 4K and just bump the fuel pressure up.
Thats the problem right there if you bump up the fuel you are burning more fuel and there goes your "emissions" test, he is trying to past inspection so he can't have to much fuel burning.
but on the new OBD2 test they dont do the tailpipe emissions check. all they check is to make sure ur car is not throwing any CEL's. if the car was OBD1 it would be different

k20 is right... as of aug 05 they just hook up to your ECU...the car isnt even started! turn the key on, hook up the computer... I have an inspector that will hook me up, but I have to find a STOCK 01 integra LS...plug my VIN in the computer, plug the stock LS into the machine.... inspection passed : D
its gunna suck doing that every 2 years though... ugh commonwealth SUCKS
