sounds like your alternator isnt putting out enough energy for your car aka it is going bad. Take it to somewhere like autozone and have them check it out to see if it is putting out enough energy.

That or you have a loose power wire on the back of the radio. That's not a good sign at any rate. Better get your alternator tested and if that's not it, pull your radio to make sure your wires are all firmly connected and that you don't have any exposed wires grounding out on the frame of your car or any other metallic objects. You'll burn your car to the ground if it's the latter. Better hurry.

doubt it is a loose wire and if it is he should of blown a fuse by now if he didnt do a fucked up job on the install anyways. My civic with a tiny *** alternator was powerful enough to run a Kenwood Z828, and a 4X225rms amp for my regular speakers and a 2X250rms for my subs all day long at idle so it is most likely his alternator is going out and that stuff tends to happen on cars. Also is your battery light on the dash comming on while the engine is running??? if it is something is definatly wrong with your cars charging system. If it isnt you have another problem and you need to go back and check all the wireing in the back of your stereo.

Honestly, if it were his alternator that were going bad, and his radio wasn't getting enough power because of it, his car wouldn't run at all. If his radio is too much of a load for the alternator to handle, don't you think that would indicate that his battery was so dead that his car would have problems starting and running, let alone trying to run the radio.

Ground the HU to the chassis. It's not the alternator or battery, it's a bad ground.
