Default Garrett T28 vs Garrett GT17

Are they similar at all. I have a GT17 and it looks like if I bolted it to a standard log manifold the part that connects to the charge pipe to the intercooler would be facing directly at the block.

GT17 is MUCH smaller.
I think ATPturbo.com may have a compressor map? Or check with Garrett...
Also, you can clock the compressor orientation, but you may run into problems with mounting the internal WG.

Dang I think I got fucked over. What other turbo does this compare to? It doesn't seem like I can clock it very much..

The GT17 is a baby of a turbo. Some trims of it come with the T25 inlet flange, and others come with the GT12-series 3-bolt triangular flange. (The "motorcycle flange")

This is the same turbo that comes stock on the VW TDI. The diesel requires much less airflow than a similar sized gasoline engine. My friend used a GT17 on his turbo Rio project, and fried the delicate bearings because the 1.6 liter at 7000 RPM and 7 PSI overspooled the turbo.

2 of them would probably feed a healthy B18.

The T28 is much larger. Unfortunately I think you did get screwed over.

edit: What is up with the seeded advertisements? It's ******* annoying.

Yeah I emailed him and am waiting a response. I am definitely going to try to get my money back.

Ok I talked to the guy. He said that it was still a T28. The inlet where the charge pipe goes is .53 a/r and the exhaust is .48 a/r and it says M27 on the housing. Is it really a T28 since they are hybrid turbos? The only thing that throws me off is the housing says Garrett GT17.

This is a Garrett GT17.

The standard A/R is 0.47, 0.53. I really don't think a T25 turbine shaft is going to fit in a GT17 CHRA.

Wouldn't the GT17 be a larger turbo than a T3 .42 / .48 a/r? The turbo I have looks just like the one you posted, but the housing writing is a little different and where it says GT17, mine has a tag on it with serial numbers and says Garrett GT17 and Allied Signal.

No. From smallest to largest, the Garrett turbos go:

T12, T15, T17, T2, T25, T28, T3, T4...

The "G" before T17 means it is a ball bearing turbo. For size comparison, the GT17 has about the same size of turbine as the DSM T25, but a smaller compressor.
