ok so im about to do an oil change on my 93 del sol with a stock D15b7. my question is that after i drain out the oil is there any thing i can put through my motor that will clean it out? like get out some of the old dirty oil out the threr before i add the new oil? TIA from a nooB

you could fill it with fresh oil and let it run for a few minutes or so, then drain it again and add some more

that actually makes sence, and a great idea for extra worn motors, but itll cost you double, oil-wise

No i've never heard of anything to do that. You can run some Sea Foam through your car with the new oil and that should help, although it's recommended that you change your oil after you sea foam it, so.....go buy some Sea Foam!...Oh yeah, then change your oil

i used to do this... I never opened the motor see what it did though. Make sure you do BEFORE you change oil though

 

your suppose to change spark plugs to after seafoam and I belive something else????

Yeah you could run the engine on two quarts of some lower grade oil for a few minutes and then drain it and good oil to the full mark. Sea foam works but on really high mileage cars with a lot of carbon build up you should as a precautionary idea unplug your O2 sensor(s) so they dont get damaged. If your cat is old as well Ive heard of thoe getting clogged and making the car run bad. If you run sea foam you need to change the oil, spark plugs is a good idea, and thats really about it.

1. Disconnect one of the hoses leading to the intake manifold, towards the throttle body or directly into the throttle body if you can easily do that.
2. Use a little more than half of the can on the first side.
3. Have someone throttling the car when it needs it , and just keep giving it gulps of the stuff. (get the tube into the liquid) If you have the correct part or tubing setup so you can just flow in the right amount the whole time...then you already know what to do. If not just watch it and try to get it in there efficiently, but don't take forever.
4. Now pull a hose towards the middle / rear of the intake manifold. This will now get more liquid to the other side of the motor. (the main concern is that your not just dumping it all on one side , as the liquid will not be acting the same as air.)
5. Once its about all used, dump in enough to shut off the motor, then wait for 5 minutes.
6. Now restart car , and rev the motor. Going for a drive wont really allow for what you need to do safely. High Revving and quick WOT (Wide Open Throttle) depresses. Then letting the car settle some , then quick presses. Change it up make it a little random. This should get the engine to rock back and forth a bit. This also helps shake things out a bit.
7. Then turn car off, Reset your ECU and your ready to go.


Don't worry about the white smoke btw

nope after seafoam, do oilchange and sparkplug change

 

if you just put seafoam into the oil, then you don't have to change the spark plugs.

I did this, went for 5 minute drive down the highway then changed the oil right after that. it did help to break up alot of the deposits in the motor. or you could take it somewhere like valvoline and they do engine flushes if you're really worried about it.

 

Try this stuff, (http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/aef.aspx) I use it everytime I buy an engine or I buy a used car. The way I was told to do it is, buy a cheap oil filter and put it on with the old oil, dump the engine flush in and run it 15-20 mins at high idle. After that drain everything out and put new oil and a good oil filter in. No worries about new spark plugs or anything.

 

A buddy of mine works at American Lube Fast (also know as autobahn). If you go there they will drain your oil and leave the oil filter on it and then they fill it back up with this cleaner thats so clear it has a light blue tint to it. They crank it up and let it run for a few and then drain it and fill it back up with normal motor oil and a new filter. Im gonna get this done eventually.

Yea... Engine flushes... We do that, but its really just pouring a formula in your oil and letting it run... Then changing your oil as normal. It does work, but you would be better off buying it and doing it yourself. Usually after we run the engine flushes, the oil come out with small clumps and smells horrible...

 

Probably if you are going to use seafoam in the combustion chambers. That **** really works and it will blow alot of carbon out which could cause your cat to clog.

Yes, alot of people have clogged their cats from sea foam also.

I would also unplug the O2 sensor(s) while your down there.
