Vtec Problem-Turbo related???
i belive i have a vtec issue, my car doesnt seem to pull right when it is supposed to cross over, it acts like it starts to activate then stops kinda like a sputter, kinda like an old mazda truck when u reved it out and it quit making power, but i was jw i get my oil from my vtec port on my head for the turbo, could this be an issue?? im pretty sure it had vtec before my rebuild but now it doesnt, IDK when the fuel filter was last changed, and i didnt clean the screen after the motor was rebuilt, but the rest of the motor had a lot of grit in it, i cleaned the head just didnt take the selonoid off- anybody got any suggestions? Sometimes it actually feels like it kicks in, u can feel it pull harder, and actually hear it get louder, but others its just not the same- any ideas would be greatly appreciated guys-
well i had this problem sord of when i put the new head that was rebuilt.... but anywas it turned out to be the orifice under the intake rocker arms was not put back after the rebuild and it was bleeding off enough oil pressure to not engage on the intake side but it was engaging on the exhaust side
anyways definately pull that solenoid off and check the screen because if it has hardly anything on it it will cause some problems.... also since your pulling the oil from the vtec port that could be just enough to bleed off the pressure but it wont set a code if the solenoid operates correctly even if there isnt sufficient oil pressure to lock to rockers together.
also when you pull the solenoid off you could maybe blow some crompressed air into the holes where the solenoid goes against the head to see if there may be some debris in there that is clogging the passages.
hope this helps.

The problem might be that you are running a p28 ecu. You should be using an obd I p72 ecu because the p28 does allow the secondary runners in the intake manifold to open when vtec kicks in. This is a common problem with turbo preludes using the p28. A p28 only allows 4 of the 8 runners to open. Try that it might work.
