Default Header problems continue, how important are the heatsheilds?

For those that didn't read my last question, after installing my headers I have been getting a pretty loud and anoying rattle coming from the cat/exhaust.

Turns out, that the whole exhaust system is pushed back about an inch and a half, so the whole thing is touch heat sheilds. The exhaust hangers are push back as well.

The header I bought was used (regretting that now) and it didn't have the support bracket like the stock one did. In fact it looks like it was cut off? Could that be what is pushing the whole system back?

What I was hoping I could do, was remove all of the heat sheilds that are causing a problem, and redo the exhaust hangers so they hang straight down again. Would this work with out problems? I don't mind that my exhaust tip is 1.5 inches more visibile or anything.

Thanks alot for all the help.

Thanks for the fast reply,

So you think pulling the heatsheilds and reseting the hangers would work out fine?

Ok I removed the heat sheilds and the rattle has gone away. The only other thing I am worried about is the hangers are pushed back a little which might cause quicker ware? Should I worry about them, or will they be ok?

I am guessing I will probably end up getting a high flow cat that is slightly shorter than my current one and put it on with my exhaust so it should all even out.

I had the resonator on my Greddy SP rattling against the heat shield.....because of the DC 4-2-1 header that was forcing the piping into it.......I had to cut the header where the collector is and some more....and weld it on slightly off with an extension......don't recommend it but the rattle really annoyed me....probably caused a problem in hp...but who cares on my B18B...i'm getting rid of it anyways

curious, but why would a header designed for the car have improper fitment? What brand is it?

Its a DC 4-2-1,

I think the problem is I bought it used, and the person who sold it to me cut off the support bracket that is supposed to bolt onto the frame of the car. I think that bracket is supposed to hold the header back enough to prevent pushing the exhaust system forward.

If not that, it could be the header was designed for a smaller catalytic converter, I think acura made a shorter one and a longer one depending on the year?

bracket being there or not shouldn't make a difference since once the header is lined up and sitting flush with the head, it's going to be there with or without any brackets.

could be a header for another B motor, that's all.

So I probably bought a civic header or something? hehe
Well thanks for the help Jesse, I guess I am going to keep it how it is with the heatsheilds off and hope the hangers don't ware out.
