Advised to get exhaust, cat, and header all at once...why??
I told a friend of mine that I was going to pick up an exhaust. At the moment I've only got money for the exhaust, and he told me that I should wait because of the problems I might run into when I try to mate certain header, cat and exhaust pieces together. Is this really a big deal? For instance, I'm planning on getting the same diameter piping all the way through, then does it really matter? Normally I wouldn't even care if this was something I HAD to do, but my car has a nasty exhaust leak and it's bugging the hell outta me.

it should be fine just dont wait 1 year or so until u get the rest but it wouldnt be a problem if it was just for a while but go for it

You should be fine.. if you are worried, just get the intake for now and get the header and the exhaust later when you save up.
but FYI, I got the intake and exhaust at same time and the header later on.

it might save you time and money on labour...
I put each piece on when i bought it and it took 3 years before the entire exhaust system was replaced. I focused on other things as my project budget allowed.
Im not sure what your firend is talking about having problems mating differnet components together.
If you are having an exhaust leak, go fix it now. I have a heat shield rattle that is driving me nuts so im having it done as soon as i have time to go to homedepot.
Youre better off fixing it than having to deal with minor annoyances... If i were you, i wouldnt listen to your friend.

What diameter of piping are you looking at?? Also, it doesn't hurt to have a stepped piping instead of a consistent pipiing, meaning, going from 2 inches in header collector, to 2.25 inches in cat, to 2.36 in exhaust.

each part compliments the other...you wont notice the power of any alone as much as when all together. maybe thas what your friend meant.
theres only 5 extra bolts that you need to remove if doing header/cat/exhaust at different times as opposed to all at once

Thanks for the info. I figured my friend was kickin' bull shat. I just wanted to make sure because he's had an Integra for a long time and I've had mine for less than a year. Since I've got a leak, it makes sense to me to just upgrade since I'm planning to anyway. Either way, in the end I will have my diameters be all the same or stepped.

I got my intake first, then header, then exhaust and everything was just fine.

For me.... I did CAI, then header, high flow cat and exhaust at the same time. This worked out great and the proof of hp gains was def there. Either way you do it, you cant go wrong with bolt-ons.

Right now I can get a good deal on a GReddy SP. I think the diameter is somewhere between 2.25" and 2.5", I'm not sure how 60 mm translates into inches. I would like 2.5" piping but the SP is at a good price, and it's shaped for better ground clearance.
