Default welding exhaust

just curious are there any drawbacks to welding your exhaust together rather than using the bolt's and flanges? any stress on anything? or is it ok to do?

by "welding exhaust" i would assume you mean welding the header to the catalytic converter, or to the rest of the exhaust if you dont have a cat. i've seen people do it before, but i wouldnt because the bolts and springs which are supposed to hold the header and exhaust together are there to provide flex. if your suspension bottomed out for instance, you could do more severe damage than just denting your header. i'm sure if you took it to an exhaust shop, they could weld in some flanges and hook it up for fairly cheap. exhaust systems NEED to have some type of flexibility to them, thats why you have rubberized exhaust hangers that stretch, so the exhaust can move around a little bit if it needs to. also, when you weld like that, it becomes PERMANENT till you cut it, so say goodbye to pulling your header or exhaust with ease.

well I can't get the flanges to get a good enough seal to stop the exhaust leak. I figured the next step would be to weld. as long as I had a flex pipe on my lower b pipe wouldn't that be enough to not hurt anything.?

well I am not an idiot. I have bought brand new gaskets, first at autozone, second at Honda, and then i doubled them up. And still nothing is working.

I've welded my exhaust like that before, due to crappy flanges that wouldnt seal. Its just wrong all the way around to have to do that. As long as you have a flex pipe, and a quality weld, you'll be okay. Just plan on keeping it for a while
