Default Shifter stuck

Hi my shifter is stuck and the only way i can move it is by putting a key in the shift lock release hole. What should I do? Is that a transmission problem?

there is a solenoid that is wired to the brake pedal that releases the shifter when the ignition is in 'run' and the brake pedal is depressed. its on the front of the shifter. if you take the console off, you'll see it. check it and the wiring, and make sure your brake lights work. if the stoplight switch went out and the solenoid doesnt know you are pushing the brake, then it wont release, and on top of that, your brake lights wont work
