Default timing belt/valves adjustment/oil leak in spark plug, need your advice.....

ok i found out that the 2nd spark plug holes from the oil cap, there is oil in it. my car is 97 accord 4 cylinder with 93,000 miles. Call this place, they said i need to replace some gaskets, so i figured i will let them do everything all at once to save some money.....here is the list...

1. timing belt - original quote - $400-->$375
2. Fuel filter - $80-->$60
3. Adjusting the valves and fixed the oil leak - $120 -->$75

a) how do i know when do i need to adjust the valves, i figured when they fix the leak they will replaced the valve gasket...that is y i let them adjust the valves too

b) what does adjust the valves will do to the engine?

c) is this a good deal or should i let them fix the leak and do the timing belt only?

thanks...
icet

for 5th gen cars it is every 30K. I would get all of that done at the same time and see if you can get a little discount. It is all required maintanence.

Not a bad price if all gaskets will be replaced with new ones.

make sure it's the sparkplug seals on the valve cover, and not the o-rings under the rocker arm assembly. You don't want to do all of this, and find out it's the o-rings after. (If you look down the tube with a light you may be able to tell if the oil is comming from the top seam or the bottom seam, which would be the o-rings)

might wanna change the water pump at the same time too. prices seem ok.

youll know your valves need adjusting when you hear them ticking.

I am getting the T-belt, balancer belt, both drive belts, water pump, thermostat, and new coolant done in late October for $278 out the door. (Not at Honda tho) so I am going to get-r-done just not all at once. Cashflow is a little problem at the moment thanx to the ex-wife. So got to do it in a couple steps. LOL

Yes especially at 60.00 some dollars an hour labor.
Also while doing a t-belt you may want to replace your 4 engine seals. Cam, crank, balancer shaft and oil pump.

Well I can tell you that adjusting the valves on my car did wonders for fuel economy. I now get 32MPG at 80 instad of 30.
