H22 or B20 help please
I have a choice of a H22a or a B20b motor. I have done some seaching about the H22 and there was a issue about it's weight and how it could give you understeering and brake your axis if it is lower pass 1.75". I have also read the excellent post on the swap motors on honda-tech which putted me at ease when i founded out it's only 35 lbs over a B-series. The B20b in the other hand is much slower but safer .. at least thats what I have read so far. I want to heard your opinions and could you suggest which engine i should go with. Could you please make a list of the requirements needed to make the H22 safe. THANK YOU
If you don't care about AC or PS then of course go with the H22.
As for safety....just get a good set of motor mounts when you do the swap. Yeah its haevy, but its not SOOOO bad. A turbo B20 will giv eyou just as many problems with TQ steer.

I founded out a way to get A/C on the H22 so that won't be a problem. Just worried about the driving issue, whether the understeering is alot or about the axis issue. Also what i would have to do to make it safe.
I got the right axles for it if you need it, for an EG going H22 email me fas4dr@yahoo.com

In california you are absolutely correct!!

When done correctly without cutting corners or skimping on costs you will not have problems with the H22. I'm not familiar with the B and H weight comparisons, but i do Know that a K series swap is 100 Lbs lighter than an H series swap. Or a K20 is 100 lbs lighter than an H22A. Contact Brian G of hasport as this is where I obtained my information.
If you are lookig for a cheap power boost, and aren't concerned with california emissions go for the B20.
I don't know much about this, but always wondered about the B21 in the Prelude. I know the head has EGR, but maybe it could be swaped it out.

You can have A/c in an h22 without any problems, Hcp sells the bracket. Power steering is for girls
I guess i vote for h22

im in the same predicament but ls/vtec vs. h22.
from the looks and sound, im going to go with h22. it has understeer but that is corrected with a good suspension.
you cooooouuuuld always go h22 turbo.

H22 will break stock axels. Save money in the long run by getting beefed up ones.
As for engine weight differences & handling issues between the two.
B20 is just a bored b18 which drops right in for a perfect fittment. Weight is not the issue, it is the fact that the h22 sits higher & is pushed farther in front of the suspension.
A great suspension kit will fix your straight line handling, but not fix the problem with having the extra weight shifted ahead of the suspension. Get the B20 with new slugs. Raise the compression on the b20 for the extra power while not requiring the heavily modded suspension.

that depends on the mount kit. my hcp kit leaves very little room between the intake manifold and firewall (much less than a b swap). My car is lowered 2" and leaves just over 3" of ground clearance for the oil pan (and 1/4" hood clearance). The motor doesn't sit farther forward or higher, its just bigger. People on H-T make the braking and handling issues seem much worse than they really are. Ask anyone with the H swap, and they'll tell you that a couple good suspension and brake purchases can make all those problems go away.
