Default AEM cam gear, usable or not?

I got an AEM cam gear (TRU TIME, purply, 3 bolts, little material machined out) in a big trade, but the teeth are dinged up a bit. My guess is the guy used his rice skills to determine a timing belt cover was too heavy, or creates parasidic losses. Looks like a bit of sand-sized particles were crunched, then wore the anodizing off the edges.

Its not a big deal if I can't use it (was free), but I'd like to. I'm doing vitaras in a d16z6 and want to run a y8 gasket, so I think the cam would be .67* off/retarded. Vitaras sit much lower than stock, but in that head it also has some high-lift Comp cam. I'm also using a new belt and not requiring more than 10k miles on the motor. But, I also don't want it to be slipping before I'm done with it.

Anyone? Thanks (pics coming soon )

as long as the belt will stay on the gear and not skip teeth, you'll be fine.
