4.7 final drive 1/4 mile, need to shift into 5th?
Can't really specifically answer that one but I wouldn't think so because I just shift into 4th on my stock FD. as I cross the line with my mad tight blink of the flashers
But seriously I doubt it.
But seriously I doubt it.
Depends on your redline and your mph when you go through the traps.
And I don't at 113 with a 9,200 fuel cut.

Yes, exactly.
For example, a bone stock USM ITR (with 4.4 stock FD) with a stock 8400 RPM redline would hit redline in fourth gear, and need to upshift, at 117.6 mph.
If you're talking about the JDM 4.785 FD that otherwise has USM stock gears, then it would hit 8400 RPM at 117.6 * 4.4 / 4.785 = 108.2 mph. Different redline, different fourth gear ratio, different FD? Just multiply and divide to find the answer.

cool. thanks guys. i saw on either the forced induction or all motor forum, that some people were at 7800 rpms in forth going around 115. i have the 4.4 but have not been to the track yet.

Chad thats over a 90mph trap in the eighth. I dunno about that and an LS. I was in 4th in the eighth though

The tire diameter doesn't affect the relationship between the RPMs (redline) and the speed indicated on the speedometer. However, it affects the speedometer error (the difference between the indicated speed and the actual speed).

I was simply saying tire size will also dictate what rpm you are at going through the traps just like your gear ratios do. If you are in a situation where you are having to shift to 5th before the traps, go to a bigger tire and you won't need 5th as long as you have the power for the larger tire.
I don't know about you but I look at the ET slip for MPH not my speedometer........

Sure, it's just like getting a taller FD.

Yes, but when you're deciding when to shift, you're probably looking at your tach...
