How can I tell if an ECU is socketed for Hondata/Uberdata?
I'm picking one up today, locally and have never seen one so let me know.

unscrew the ecu case top...phillips head...look on the board and look for a green or blue box that is higher than the rest of the board should be on one of the corners...if there is a black "top" in the box that is the chip....flip the silver arm on the blue box and you can release the chip.

thats only if it has a zif socket
in the corner farthest from the plugs there will be a blank 28 pin if its not chipped, if it is chipped there will be a 28 pin eprom in its place along with a cpl other chips here n there
john explains it pretty good on his site along with pics:

I have the ECU with the cover off right in front of me, I'll take a pic in a minute.
It doesn't have a chip on it, but it does have the 28-pin thingy installed.
Does that mean that it's socketed and READY to accept a chip?

Pics of the ECU:
So to me, it looks like it's socketed and READY to accept a chip, but there's no chip.
Sorry fellas, I'm uBeR-stupid

Yeah I'm picking up a chip from my buddy who does that sort of thing on the side
Recommendations on a chip burner? I found an old HP Omnibook 5700CT laptop for $100.

Caps arent 100% necessary...they are 'just in case' so you should be fine.
The hondata boards connects to the little white 4 pin thing and you put the chip in the socket.

I'm using the Moates.net usb burner for $85. So far I've had zero problems. A wilmhelm or whatever may be cheaper, but it's bigger, more fragile, and beginers usually run into problems.
The moates burner, as well as the burning application, are very simple to operate.
I'm not sure, but you will need that one spot where the jumper goes to be bridged (use a switch) in order to run off the chip for uberdata.

you know the "just in case" always screws you when you don't want it to. for how cheap and easy they are to install it's good to do it.

ecu is no good you should give it to me
. all you need is a burner and uberdata or crome program and you should be good to go. http://www.moates.net/product_...id=48 for the burn1
