Driving with the hood off.
Just perusing through some old issues of HOT ROD and I was suddenly motivated to run my car with the hood off. Is this safe? I'm afraid something might fly off in the process.
This is just for the hell of it so please no flames about how stupid this is.

I've seen this done before, but I would never do it. Besides the fact that we could hardly stop laughing to race the guy, it has to be annoying to wash mosquitos off of your valvecover.
not a matter of street or track, just wanted to theorize whether it's possible. and of course you wouldnt leave your **** unprotected if u were to do this.

it is possible. Will anything fly off and hit your hood during driving? Hell no, so why would you take the hood off will fly something out? But, driving in the rain is different story as you dont' want water to get into the electrical stuff don't you?
As some other people said, WHY??? It is not only not cool, it also sounds pretty stupid. Get a carbon fibra hood if you are trying to save weight.

Perhaps his intent was to ask if he drove w/ the hood off, if the weight savings would outweigh the aerodynamic handicap caused by the lack of a hoood and the exposed engine bay.
