Default Questions about cheap turbo set up for '96 Civic EX

Me and a friend are planning a super low dollar, low boost turbo install on his '96 Civic EX with the SOHC D16. I've done turbo installs before, so I understand the theory behind it, but I'm new to Hondas and have some Honda specific questions. His car is all stock at the moment, and we're using a a/r .42 Garrett T3 from an 89 Saab 9000 with an internal waste gate set at 6psi, and that's all the boost he wants to run. We're also using a small intercooler from an '88 Audi 5000. I've searched the site for info, but having problems finding answers to my questions, so here they are:
1. What's the stock compression ratio, and will it have to be lowered to run 6psi?
2. What's the easiest/cheapest way for fuel enrichment? Are there chips available? Piggyback systems? Etc.
3. Will stock injectors be OK for 6psi?
4. Will the timing advance have to be altered for 6psi? If so, what's the best way to change the timing curve?
5. Where's the best place to tap into for the oil feed? Where's the best place to get the fittings?

That's all I can think of right now. Keep in mind that we are doing this as an ultra low budget build, and if there are any parts that I can get from a junkyard that will help me out, please let me know.

1. If it's a D16Y8, then 9.2:1 or something along those lines.
2. Uberdata or Apexi VAFC
3. No. I tried using stock injectors with my vafc when I first installed the turbo. Blew my motor quickly. Get larger ones. I recommend DSM 450's. Cheap and all over ebay.
4.I left my timing stock with 5 psi, so with 6 I think you'll be ok.
5. I tapped the oil pressure sending unit on the back of the block, above the oil filter. However, I recommend using an oil pressure reducer. Stock honda oil sending units push out a lot of pressure, to the point that it will push oil past the turbo seals.
Hope this helps. Sorry I don't know the exact CR on the D16 in a 96 EX.

compression will be okay. Maybe invest into some dsm 450cc injectors. Also a cheap fuel managment would be a chipped ecu with uberdata or crome. Good luck

Thanks for the help. One more question, the Uberdata page says it only works for OBD1 equipped vehicles. The '96 civic ex should be OBD2, correct? Does that mean I'm limited to the apexi VFAC if I don't want to go standalone(which I don't)?

For the price of the VAFC you could prob get a chipped ODB1 ECU (for Uber, Crome, Etc) and a used conversion harness. This will be WAY more reliable. They don't call it the VAFC Hack for nothing. Good Luck. And also, there is tons of info floating on HT, take a few to browse it. IT will only help you out more.

Thanks. One more thing, are the DSM 450 injectors the same impedance as stock, or will I have to run some kind of inline resistor?

You will need a resistor box for DSMs.
Do a quick search for dsm injectors, under archive.

I'm a huge believer in the Uberdata/Crom systems, but for this application I'm gonna say use an FMU.

With Uberdata or Crome you have to get it tuned which means you need a $300 wideband or pay someone to tune it, you need OBDI($70 ECU), you need it chipped ($30-$50), you need bigger injectors ($50-$70 for DSM 450cc). with an FMU you only need the Unit and a fuel pump and for 6PSI it's a great system...anymore then 7 and you need better managment. Bottom line: for the PSI you want and no more get the FMU because it works and it's cheaper then even Uberdata

Thats a good point I totally forgot about. I would say a FMU if you are strictly set on 6 psi

So the FMU basicly turns the existing FPR into a rising rate FPR, correct? If that's the case, what ratio/brand would you suggest?

why only 6psi? There is no reason to not run more boost than that. 6psi with that turbo isn't gonna put you at that much power. Up the boost, get an obd1 conversion harness and ecu and tune it using crome/uberdata/neptune...etc.

ratio: you want one that is a 12:1 meaning 12 extra lbs of fuel pressure for every lb of boost

brand: got me?

OK, I found a good deal on a P28 ECU from a 94 EX that already has the uberdata chip installed, and from what I've ready that seems to be the safest way to go. Where do I get the adapter harness to install it into the '96? Is there a wiring diagram on how to make it myself?
