if you do a little research you can turbo it for very cheap. **** ive even seen people make money putting their kit together.
i would think sub $1000 if you wanna be real cheap.
homemadeturbo.com is your friend. just dont ask stupid questions there. just read good info

Well you can always piece together a cheap turbo kit, and there are already tons of posts on here to find places with cheap parts. Boost is the cheapest way to go, but if your looking to get a nice reliable quick ride for your single cam I recommend doing the basics first. I/H/E then get a mild cam and do some headwork if you wanted to.

welcome to h-t. i/h/e means intake, header, exhaust. your car will run the best when it can breath better. i know your excited about owning a civic but trust me on this one. before you get"fast", you need to be able to control your car. suspension is the second mod you should do after an alarm. use the search button. instead of the search option "recent", click "archived". it will give alot more useful threads. it is a treasure chest filled with everything you ever wanted to know about hondas. i bet its the single biggest collection of facts, diy's and knowledge about hondas on the face of the earth. just read and read and when your done reading, read some more.lol take your time on the whole fast thing. you have an ex. its already a fun car in stock form. you need to get to first base before you start hitting homeruns. remember, suspension first or you can kill yourself in you beloved civic. good luck and be smart. remember to read up before you buy anthing and stay away from ebay perfomence parts.

sell your auto, that thing is hideous, it'll be cheaper to get a manual with the proper color hood then to do a auto-manual swap and paint your hood.
and wtf is up with the blueness? i mean its sweet how its taped on and everything...oh no, it isn't, its just bad.
and you have the double windshield wipers! thats BOSS!

To be perfectly honest, the best way to make it faster on a budget is to remove absolutely everything from the car that doesn't make it go, stop, or turn.
You have to consider that "faster" is sort of subjective. Something that's "faster" on a drag strip is not necessarily "faster" on a road course and vice versa.
One thing to think about is engine efficiency. Think in the abstract about all the stuff that is physically keeping the engine from obtaining air or about the stuff that is causing friction and see what conclusions you can come up with.
Also read a lot. This website has tons of proven things you can do and tons more theory associated with Honda's in general.

Re: (Kendall)
The only real option for SOHC is turbo. Other then that swap the motor or just be happy with it until you have the funds to do something. Yeah clean it up though you need headlights, at least sand them down there are tutorials on that. You can make your car nice, while it is true that getting a manual car will make more sense, I have an auto as well, sedan at that, and im definetly not getting rid of it. Its more fun to have something a little different. Also OEM parts are your friend.

Cheap and HP dont mix, but I will agree turbo is the way to go. but the most vital part of any turbo set up is good fuel managment and a great tune. As much as I see people doing street tunes, I just dont think it can be tuned as good as a dyno tune. so even after you get all your turbo **** you will still need atleast s100 w\boost option $200 and then couple hours of dyno time $350 so still getting close to 2k for a good setup not to mention some injectors $300. try and just start with the headers and exaust and then maybe get a cam.
