Default flex pipe = super sound absorber?!? helpp

guys i just recently installed my turbo on my D(this past friday). im running open dp which is a little loud for me. my turbo spool is, seriously no joke, as loud as my 1g dsm bov. its really really loud. last night i welded on my flex pipe(6" of flex, 10" total length" and the flange to the end of my dp.
i got a new basemap in this morning, installed it started it up and the car could barely idle, was waaay bogging and threw a cel. tried to check the cell but the ****** wouldn't blink for me. so i pulled out the new basemap and put in my old(old is a good basemap but is a friends and wanted to get it back to him. both maps were made by the same profesional tuner). i cleared the ecu and started it up. warm up idle'd at 2k for 30 seconds then slowly came down to a good idle. i closed up the garage and drove to work this morning.

long story short i can BARELY hear my turbo spool. i got so worried cuz i instantly noticed i couldn't hear it hardly. so i didn't get into boost hardly at all i was too worried. but cruising around the same rpm's i knew it wasn't as loud as before. its like only 25% as loud as it was before

but the only thing i touched was the dp. i don't get it. is the flex somehow absorbing all the sound?

im concerned that something happened in those 30 seconds total time i had the car running on that other basemap.

i was too scared to check full boost etc etc

any ideas???

-Luke

i really dont think a flex pipe is going to do much to quiet it down... check your ears for excessive ear wax

More wax = quiet turbo

i dont know for sure but i would have to say that it might be helping quiet it down along with you bolting up your exhaust which i would think would be quietier compared to your previous open downpipe! but good luck!!

what does your boost guage say?

if youre getting the same boost as before, who cares how loud the spool is?

It is known that the corrugated part of flex pipe will quiet the turbo down a bit. As for how much, I've never done an experiment to find out.

i checked for ear wax. ears seem ok. i had to drive out at lunch to pick up some things and i let it idle in the parking lot, everything seemed ok. i didn't see anything abnormal so i took it for the drive. i pushed it harder and after a few times the db were noticiably louder. i wonder if 30 secs on that bad map dumped fuel everywhere and just needed a good italian tune up.

i liked the loud turbo spool but i was worried something was wrong causing it not to spool=less noise. she pulls just as hard as before everything seems fine. its still not as loud as before so i wonder if the flex does minimize noise a little.

Let me quote myself again to answer that question....

cars running a rich mixture will also sound a lot louder/ deeper than cars running with an ideal mixture. or leaner mixtures
