Default Close Ratio Gear Question

ok my question is if I buy a 3rd and 4th close ratio gears will I still have that grinding problem that happens from 2nd to 3rd due to my synchros? if not do you think about $200-300 is too much thats how much I saw them for sale for on Password Jdm. Ok thanks

If you don't replace the synchro's, you won't fix the problem. And changing just one or two gears usually ***** up the total gearing pretty bad.

What tranny do you have?

just the stock one (MT) know how much syncrhos might cost me? and where to get them pretty cheap? also when I'm in a race I shift at 6800 when I'm not I shift normally between 3-4000 but why do my synchros still go out? this is the second time.

Is it an LS tranny, a GSR tranny, a B16 tranny, a B17 tranny, an ITR tranny, a 98 spec JDM ITR tranny, a CRV tranny? Do I have to be this specific? Someone's username isn't always consistent with what they drive.

I'm assuming this post is about the ATS gears being that Password doesn't sell anyone elses gears.

The ATS gears are designed to be used with an ITR tranny. They can be used in an LS tranny, but will **** up the gear ratios particularly bad. Best advice is to invest in a stock ITR tranny and sell the LS one. Much better result and it'll probably end up costing about the same.

If you were talking about putting the entire gearset in there, then it'd be a different story. But with an LS tranny you'd still only have a 4.2 final drive.

ok thanks for the advise...I was under the impression that if I bought the 3rd and 4th gears that my problems would be over...well to tell you the truth my gear doesn't completely grind yet but it feels like it might soon I might just do a transmission flush and fill it with some better tranny fluid to see if that might help if all else fails I might just go with the itr tranny lol even though it is the most expensive way to go...well if I was interested in just the synchros any ideas how much they would cost?

Get ahold of Willard here on Honda-Tech, he'd know more about the cost of replacing synchros than I would.
