How does a bad syncro have anything to do with it popping out of gear? Syncros only help to match speeds of the gears while shifting.
rac3rb0i, check out the engine and tranny mounts in addition to a bad shift fork. Movement of the tranny can cause the shifter to pop out of gear.

Re: 3rd gear pops out (rac3rb0i)
check your tranny fluid. When my oil seal would pop out and the fluid would leak out my tranny would pop out of gear.

not a transmission expert but my transmission would pop out of 2nd and grind or miss altogether in 3rd. We tore it apart and only replaced the synchros. Popped on the transmission to another car and has been running like a champ for over a year now.

This is what I was basing my response on. I have heard also that grinding is mainly due to synchros, while popping out of gear is more often shift forks.

However, your case may have been different. I guess every scenario has it's own twist.

Re: 3rd gear pops out (pizzaboysos)
My 5th gear would pop out and then my tranny cooked itself. Check your fluid. And if you are driving and you smell something sour then your tranny just took a ****.
