no, it's not going to hurt anything on the car, but the battery will not last as long. i'm not saying it'll fry it right up, but it won't last forever. deep cycles like to be drained and then charged, hence "deep cycle." i could get in more detail, but it's not necessary. just get a red top group 51. they're a little harder to find, but they make them.

What are you talking about? I have been running a yellow top Optima in my Civic HB for two years now, and with no ill-effects. It has been one GREAT battery.

I compete in dB Drag racing, and the Yellow top Optimas (Group 34) is THE battery of choice for the street division. It'll work great with no ill effects. I've also seen the GM CS 130 alternators work on our cars as well.

i agree, they are great batteries. i'm just saying, in a daily driven car without something that drains the battery to like half of its life or so, or sitting forever, it won't last *as* long as a red top would. but, optimas are great batteries anyway, and i wouldn't be surprised if a yellowtop would last over 5 years in this service. i was just saying that it won't last forever. maybe as long as a regular battery, maybe longer, but probably not quite as long as a red top would in the same situation. i would hope any optima battery would last at least 2 years.

I have never heard of any longevity problems with deep cycle batteries. Remember that lead-acid batteries don't suffer from the same 'memory' phenomenon from 'shallow cycling' that nickel cadmiums are infamous for.
