Default fully built head....now weird vtec problem

i recently installed full supertech valvetrain with sk2s2 cams...it already has a bunch of bolt ons and all that good ****.sarted right up...it idled fine reved fine all that....so i was just drivin around with it for a little while until i decided to get it up there into vtec range...my crossover is at 6,000....as soon as it trys to crossover into vtec it makes a real loud bah bah bah sound and there is no power...if i keep my foot down on the gas the revs go up and after a certain rpm it pulls again...HARD...now i took it to my buddies shop down the street and he took it for a spin....he said it feels like it is cutting off either ignition or fuel...and its not mechanical...i did the installation myself and torqued everything down to exact specifications...now the harness in the car is a real hack job...but i get no cel and the car is perfect other than right at the crossover...also running vafc if that makes any difference

no luck....found leaking gas from the FPR...fixed that problem but did not help for the vtec problem...i know i need about a half quart of oil..because the damn cel 22 came on durin my ride home from work.....now i know i need to get the car tuned and that will most probably fix this problem...but what else do you guys think that it might be...i just wanna cover all bases..thanks

you either have low oil pressure, or no oil at all...i had the same problem...it wouldn't crossover to vtec when it was supposed to and then BAM vtec...the vtec came in randomly, and kept doing this for a while...i took a corner and my oil light came on...i checked the oil, very little to no oil on the dipstick...hahaha...did an oil change(drained out very little oil)...filled up that bad boy, and problem fixed...vtec engages when it's suppose to, vtec pulls hard just like before...hahaha...so you should check your oil level, or oil pressure...hope this helps.

cool..i was coming to that conclusion anyways...purpleterror suggested an oil pressure gauge..and i think thats a must at this point...

it happen to me before too. It was bad distributor rotor, so I replace new cap and rotor and everything went smooth. But do check on your oil level too....good luck

yeah when we were building the head we noticed that the rotor was super loose...so we tightened it...it seems to run fine...but maybe it has something to do with it...we actually reset the vtec for 6700 and now it kicks in fine but when it crosses over it just doesnt have the same kick as when the ols cams crossed over

6700 is way to high for the stage2's i would go closer to 5k if I where you. Also check your timing form Idle to WOT should be anywhere from 16-19 btdc idle and about 26-33 @WOT. You definatly need an oil pressure gauge!!

we already figured out the problem a while ago...acually we set the vtec crossover at 7k ...it was tuned on the dyno

I came across this problem on a b16. The solution was the o-rings under the cam caps and jets were bad. We replaced all three, problem solved. They could have been upset when the cams were changed over, causing a internal oil leak.

well there were many factors that contributed to it...i had a crushed dc 4-2-1 header to si catback...piping was like 1.5 inches the most...i never really measured but it was too small..with the sk2s2 cams it was causing a lot of reversion and i made about 15 less peak whp than with stock cams...we advanced intake +1 and retarded exhaust -5 and we were still making crappy numbers...the car only dynoed at 140 peak whp....wayyyy low for a potent motor...i was running 210 compression across the board....i also used the stage 2 cams on a stock compression b16...i thought that using flat faced valves as well as only two layers of the head gasket would bring me close to 11:1 compression but i guess it didnt...
i have the dyno graphs in the car (wrecked it) if u saw em ud understand why we had to set vtec at 7k....the intake air velocity was not high enough below 6800 rpm for vtec to properly engage when it crossed over...mechanically it was crossing over but made no power between 6000 and 6800 where all of a sudden it would kick in and pull hard...

well i wrecked my old hatch and i got a new project one...sum of yall may have seen it in the crx/ef forum...so now i built 2.25 inch exhaust system for it and am gonna put on a ctr header temporarily till i can afford a better one...im kinda conflicted between if i want to mill the head and use an oem 3 layer or 2layer....or if i should use a single layer hg ...id prefer not to have more machine work done since it is expensive and i hate downtime on my projects...
